What a stunner. He had a chance to become the franchise's all-time leading tackler, and was really the only veteran leader on the team, especially the defense. Salute to one of my favorite Jets ever, this is gonna be a weird season.
One of my favorite Jets over the past 10 years. Always kept his head down and just worked. Will never forget that interception vs the Patriots in the 11' playoffs
I'm shocked and yet I'm not surprised. As the season ended, there was a thread about which players should be brought back and which should be cut. David Harris is a classy guy and a great locker room presence but if we are talking purely about what he provided on the football field, he is the perfect 1980's line backer. He is a huge liability in coverage . This move also may symbolize Woody really wanting to tank the 2017 season and secure a top 2 or 3 pick in the 2018 draft which will be riddled with quite a few good QB prospects. Sad day, but if it was today or next off season, Harris' time with the Jets was going to come to an end regardless.
This means 6.5M as cap saving, but dear God, D Davis and Lee as our starting LB's...Some many holes next year and I hope we will have many answers when season ends.
A bit overdue. The lack of speed over the middle has been an issue. But, what a great Jet. Thank you Mr. Hitman Harris. What a steal in the 2nd round. Practically our only good 2nd rounder in a decade. You will be missed!
Wow. I'm shocked it took this long as I expected it at the start of the off-season. After awhile it became apparent he was staying, so this is confusing. The Hitman was a great player for the team for a long time. Sad to see him go.
I assume getting Davis back is the excuse they needed to shed more age but still seems like a shabby way to treat one of the few professionals here.
His hustle along with never being a locker room headache will be sorely missed, it has already been stated that his coverage abilities will not be missed. He has turned into a 1st and 10, 2nd and short linebacker, doubt he is worth the money owed this year if that is all your getting. He was the only decent 2nd round pick this team had in 20 years.
Probably the right decision but seems awfully shitty timing. Have I missed something and was there a need to cut him today?
I wondered if this was coming after the Pryor/Davis trade. Still a shock. Another great Jet bites the dust. Davis was never a fit alongside The Hitman, but maybe he can thrive in place of him. Yet another indicator that the team is really building from the ground up. If one of the young receivers steps up Decker better have his bags packed.
At this point I wouldn't be surprised to see them cut Decker and Sheldon before training camp and fully commit to the tank.
wtf, kind of hope he comes back at a cheaper price, he's our best tackler easily. But youth movement continues.
once again u idiots have no clue, he was slow as shit , davis is a little faster , one of the undrafted mlb's will make this team, so its lee, davis, udfa, and carter as the ilb's
herp a derp my name is steve; and I like to call people names to make myself look relevant Being slow is one thing, but he's easily the best tackler / block shedding linebacker on the team. Davis fucking sucks, David Harris was better in coverage despite being 10x slower. Clearly you haven't seen one Jet game prior to this season. We don't have a reliable inside linebacker on this roster.
I can see Decker being traded mid season to a team that suffered injuries at the position. At this point we should try to get him back into the lineup to showcase to other teams he's healthy. I can see us getting as high 3rd for him if healthy.
