My point exactly....They should have been in at least two Superbowls with that roster. They should have at least one ring.Thats all the NFL is about ...No one remembers regular season wins unless it's 16-0
Ver Bad example,,,,Marvin Lewis has never won a thing ! Its about winning a championship and this guy has NEVER won a playoff game ! Marty Shottenheimer was a great coach also, his teams would win 10 or 11 or 12 games each year and usually got bounced the first week of the playoffs , he never won squat either. This said these 2 guys as bad as they are and were are light years better than the horses ass we have for a coach right now. in keeping with the thread I think Mac needs to hit a grand slam in this draft or it could be possible that both the lame duck Bowels and he could be gone at years end----->this year looks to be an on coming train wreck folks
This is a big draft for MM but I think he is fine either way- and I hope thats the case. People forget he inherited a 4-12 team that overachieved there first year- due to key signings of some vet players. These vet players played well above expectation and the Jets finished with 10 wins. The next year these same vets didn't perform, and we got what we should of had in the first year. Now MM has committed to a full rebuild, and to do that you can't keep switching GM's every 3 years.
The most important position in the sport and Mac has drafted two bums they are afraid to even put on the field and signed Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Hoyer. Let that sink in...he has signed Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brian Hoyer. If you think Mac deserves more time then tip your surgeon because your lobotomy was a success. Mac was okay with Bowles as head coach when he took the job so the argument that he should be able to hire his own coach, as if he didn't want Bowles is meritless and a desperate argument to support Mac because you have no credible reason to defend him by his actual performance. There is zero indication that Mac opposed Bowles as coach and you have to validate why he'd risk his own reputation and success with a coach he was opposed to if you want to make that argument that he deserves his own coach, because Mac's own actions point to his approval of Bowles as the coach. Bowles is his coach even if he wasn't part of the process when hiring him.
In typical Jet fashion we had high expectations for last season and failed miserbably. Now our expectations are lower then ever and who knows maybe we will end up being surprised.(I doubt it)
For those on the "I'll suck for Darnold" Tank Wagon .. it's more like high expectations to be the lowest of the low .. to get a high pick.
When did he sign Hoyer? And if you were offered a general manager job, would you reject it because you didn't like who the coach would be? He would've likely not received another job offer for a while, if ever.
At this point, nothing shouid be assumed. II think if the team is competitive and shows progress, both Bowles and Mac will be back. If the team is God awful, Bowles will probably be gone and Mac will be the one who will be the lame duck.
Sorry, Josh McCown. I confused stud QB's. Does the argument really change between the two? Yes, I would pass on a job if I didn't feel confident that the coach could be successful and it would prevent my success. And there is precedent for candidates turning down jobs so it isn't an opinion exclusive to some message board poster. There is zero evidence that Mac had any opposition to Bowles as coach, that he would not have hired him, and thus Bowles' coaching ability does not reflect Mac's ability to evaluate a coaching candidate which is the only reason we'd need to see him personally sign a coach.
What exactly has he done wrong? His drafts have been solid (6 potential starters have come from his drafts and 1 starter was an UDFA). He built the team that came within one game of the playoffs in the first year which included a franchise record setting offense and brought them back in year 2. The players imploded but that's not on him. The QB's he's drafted are fine in my opinion. We didn't have the top pick and we weren't in position to get the top QB's so he took chances on two guys who had some potential. He hasn't really mortgaged the future on bad contracts (I don't include Revis because no one could have imagined he'd fall off so suddenly - plus he had to spend the money). So, what exactly has he done wrong?
Some have an irrational hate for him because he didn't immediately draft 5-6 future HOFers all who had a HUGE impact from day one.
For Mike retention: * 2016 draft players development in 2017. None of our picks in 2016 really had a big impact last year. Lee, Jenkins, Burris, Shell, Peake - right now, they're all fairly 'meh'. They don't all need to turn into Pro-Bowlers, but none of them were really 'good starters' last year - how many of them make that jump will be a big factor. That said, if Hackenberg somehow magically turns into The Guy this year, every single one of these guys could be out of the league in 2018 and it'd still be a good draft. * Get 2 immediate good 2017 starters out of the 2017 draft class. Honestly, considering the fact we have the #6 pick, we should be aiming for at least one 'perennial pro-bowler' level talent there - Jamal Adams and OJ Howard are good low-floor candidates that are instant-starting-quality players at worst. Considering the depth of this draft, there's a lot riding on McCaggnan here. He has to break the Jets' second-round curse this year. I think he'll almost certainly be retained in 2018, but if there's no/minimal progression from the 2016 guys AND we don't get immediate performance out of anyone in a loaded 2017 draft class, I can see him going.
ther are only about 10 true franchise QBs in the world - if you don't have one the team is going to struggle and you cannot just go get one otherwise everyone would - I have no real issues with his moves
I have a hard time taking anyone seriously if they think that Maccagnan is going anywhere, anytime soon. While I don't think he has knocked it out of the park, I also don't think he has done a bad job. He has demonstrated that he has the foresight, and the patience to build and develop a program. Unlike the armchair GM's on this board, he has a vision for the next few seasons, and not just the upcoming season. You don't draft people based on need if you don't feel that the player available is going to be JAG. Do you think that he doesn't see the glaring need for an OT? He may have whiffed on the Devin Smith pick, but only because the guy has an ACL made of peanut brittle. It's not like Devin Smith had a Dee Milliner history of college injuries. The Hackenberg pick was a reach, and possibly the worst decision that he has made up until this point. The jury is out until we get a definitive answer. The plan was clearly to redshirt Hack, and I respect the fact that he stuck to his guns. I swear that we have a bunch of pre-menstrual women on this board who do nothing but complain and be negative. Take a baby wipe to your labia and start supporting your team. I'm 42, and I have fucking seen it all. From AJ Duhe, to Mark Gastineau's roughing the passer penalty against the Browns, to Doug Brien missing very make-able FG's to beat the Steelers, to the current day, I have stuck with this team, and have never given up on them. Being a Negative Nancy is a coping mechanism. You disassociate yourself from the team to avoid the pain. Be the band who played while the Titanic sunk. Don't be the guy who pushes aside women and children to get on the life boat.
