Saw this over on Jets Mailbag figured it would be cool to see opinions here cuz what the fuck is there else to do on April 5th? Week 1 : Josh McCown Week 8 : Christian Hackenberg Week 16 : Mitch Trubisky Week 1 2018 : Mitch Trubisky God help us.
Week 1 : Josh McCown Week 8 : Christian Hackenberg Week 16 : Deshaun Watson Week 1 2018 : Deshaun Watson
My only issue with the two above post is week 8 should read week 5, pending schedual. Assuming 1 to 4 go as we expect get Hack in as early as possible without throwing him to the lions (exp: don't start him against the Pats without a lighter opponent first). I would also move the rookie up to week 15 again pending who the opponents are. and yes i would be completly okay with either of those guys being taken at 6.
How I want it go: Week 1 : Bryce Petty Week 8 : Bryce Petty Week 16 : Bryce Petty Week 1 2018 : Bryce Petty How it probably will go: Week 1 : Josh McCown Week 8 : Christian Hackenberg Week 16 : Josh McCown Week 1 2018 : Another FA QB
Great thread Jay Mohr! Week 1 : Deshaun Watson Week 8 : Deshaun Watson Week 16 : Deshaun Watson Week 1 2018 : Deshaun Watson
Like Peebag, I'd like to see Petty take the whole thing, but: Week 1 : Josh McCown ("Gives us the best chance to win". Gets injured by week 3) Week 8 : Bryce Petty (Shows improvement over last year, he could be the guy, but gets injured again) Week 16 : Christian Hackenberg (Need to see what he has before 2018 draft) Week 1 2018 : Christian Hackenberg
I think Petty is a camp-arm cut this year. Hack is here for another year without a doubt, because he's Mac's 2nd round pick from last year. If the Jets invest another mid to high pick in the quarterback position in a little over three weeks from now, then there is in all likelihood a strong chance Petty will be looking for some cardboard boxes. Next season's Jets quarterbacks will be McCown, Hack, and someone they draft in the 2017 NFL DRAFT.
If the Jets pick a QB with the 6th pick Big Mac will basically be saying he screwed up big time. Let hack play this year, If he has what it takes build a team around him if not 2018 get another QB and cut bait with Hack
And when McCown gets injured as he always does, the Jets will have two players that have never taken an NFL snap behind him. Not sure that makes a whole lot of sense. I think the signing of McCown means the Jets will not be selecting a QB this draft. Why would you sign McCown if you knew you could grab Watson or Trubisky at 6 and pencil him in as the starter? And if the plan is to red shirt that 6 pick, you will be riden out of town on a rail.
McCown is just insurance. I doubt he starts many games next season. If the Jets draft somebody on April 27, you can bet whomever that is will have a strong chance to start thier rookie season. I can't envision Mac carrying 4 quarterbacks again next season. Petty will likely be packing up card board boxes after being a camp cut... Maybe stick around on the practice squad.
Week 1 : Josh McCown Week 8 : Christian Hackenberg Week 16 : Christian Hackenberg Week 1 2018 : Christian Hackenberg
Could be... I just dont think any of the QB's to be drafted are better than Petty in year three or Hack in year two. Alot of people on this board have love for Watson, but his accuracy issues are really troubling. His best option would be to get drafted by a team that wont have pressure to start him this year, like the Broncos and Paxton Lynch last year.
Week 16 - Uncle Rico If Coach woulda put me in fourth quarter, we would've been state champions. No doubt. No doubt in my mind.
Week 1: Christian Hackenberg Week 17: Christian Hackenberg Wild Card Weekend: Christian Hackenberg OH SNAP!
The forecast for QB's scenario's may play out with Mac loving to pick QBs yearly drafting Peterman in the 3rd makes no sense but he is such a Mac type pick it's inevitable. Petty unfortunately gets cut. Week 1 Hack Week 8 Hack Week 16 Hack Week 1 18 Hack is our FQB Peterman is now our backup to in 18.
