Hahaha, I was thinking of calling this Snowmageddon 2017. Weather Underground up to 3-5 inches. Enough snow to make the day suck, not enough to get me out of work.
stubborn gfs just won't give up the big numbers. screw it, we don't need no stinkin gfs. @Brook! there will be big winds with big gusts so power outage is a real possibility. good news is the ground froze someover the weekend so uprooted trees are not a huge risk. but falling branches are definitely in play. on the shore, flooding will be a problem with a sizeable storm surge and as cbg mentioned, a full moon high tide makes it more probable. any where that has mixing issues will have iced up power lines too. all and all, a very powerful and dangerous storm. stay home, grab some supplies, gas up the blower and generator, fire up netflix and enjoy the day with the fam.
Weather Channel damned near in panic mode. You guys be careful close to the coast, CT and the island..
I drive to westchester from long island everyday and it looks like those inland areas are gonna get bombed. Good....looking forward to a shut in day on tuesday and "only" having to deal with a measly 10".
I'm more worried about flooding more than anything. Might trade cars with the wife as her drive involves a lot of backroads through Atlantic and Cumberland Counties and they are predicted to get a lot more snow. She can have the Equinox and I'll take the Cruze (If I bother going to work. I'm doing a lot of data calculating this week from a 4 month test so I'm going to work from home if I can.)
Final Sunday night group predictions: WC - 1-3 inches, windy as hell. Accu - 4-8 inches WU - 1-3 inches I'm also now worried about the mix of freezing rain and snow. Roads are going to be a death trap with idiots thinking that because it's only a few inches, they can drive easily.
You will be happy to know that the GFS is now onboard and says similar to the others that we Get buried !!!!! Be safe all
AHHHH fast forward to this morning--OVERNIGHT Ukie moved west--Euro moved west-------> snow /sleet rain line moved west ? with these last model runs I am honestly not sure if mixing issues happen in just Eastern Long Island or brooklyn or the bronx or westchester maybe FJAYF or someone knows better ? Regardless mixing issues will keep totals down IF THEY HAPPEN but that might just mean instead of 20 inches you get 10 . No matter how you slice it we are all getting a lot of snow and if no mixing issues we GET A LOT MORE ! thoughts ?
about time the gfs came back. so, yea a little wobble west, should drop totals on eastern l.i.and the coast and raise totals further inland. either way a lot of snow, maybe some ice in nyc, long island and the jersey shore. definitely some ice in atlantic city.expect the roadsto be unpassable by late morning tomorrow and keep en ear and an eye for thunder snow and lightening
Locals here calling for 10-16" with possible 18's in some places in the 717. Looks like Big A will get his yearly work out after all!
Its pretty much a guarantee their will be no going to work tomorrow. When is this supposed to end? I am in Bergen County NJ. I see reports say we get snow up until Tuesday night around midnight others say it will calm down to snow showers by around 7 or 8 PM. When is a good time to go out with the snow blower. Late Tues afternoon/early evening or Wed morning?
Monday Morning EHT Update: Weather Channel/Weather Underground: 1"...of rain. By the time the snow starts, it'll already be warming up here and turn to rain almost immediately. Accuweather: I think they seem confused as hell. They are saying 2-4" tomorrow but total storm still 4-8". For once I think they'll be wrong.
I am not sure when it ends as it could stall or move faster its not coming up coast yet maybe the others can chime in ? This is gonna be A LOT of snow so I usually try and get out there during the storm to make it easier for later--thing is with this storm it will be SOOOOO WINDY it will not pay to go out and blow it you will have to wait a while either until its over or almost over.
