Catanzaro is another young guy (26) that has played at a very high level but was subpar last year and his team didnt think it was worth keeping him.

Mac gave him on a contract that provides the Jets flexibility should the player not improve his game. If he is able to improve, Mac has locked in a very good young player that can grow within the franchise.

Catanzaro is 6'3" and has a strong leg, as evidenced by his 60 yard kick in Buffalo. So I think he can handle the wind at MetLife.

Interesting to note that since they changed the rules and narrowed the goal posts last year, players XP percentage has gone down.
Folk never missed an XP in 9 years of playing, then missed 2 of 26 last year (92.3%)
Catanzaro was 100% as a rookie, but was 91% the last 2 years and was 43 or 47 last year, which has to be infuriating but he has the same XP percentage as Folk did last year.

Folks FG percentage for his career fluctuated from 64-92 percent. He was very good for the Jets averaging about 86% but has had his ups and downs.
Catanzaro's FG percentage for the last 3 seasons was 88%, 90% and 75%. Again that down year got him sent out of Arizona, but he is young and can recover.

We'll see. Best case we get another Nick Folk. Worse case he helps us tank for a QB in the 2018 draft.

The tone was set by the loss of the locker room, not Folk. A win in that game, and the rest of history is changed, and possibly for the worse. You can only really point to turns of events at very end of the season. I don't recall the entire Bengals game, but I'm sure that we could point to other miscues other than a missed FG.

He'll compete in camp I assume. Will not be handed the job.

He will compete with Steve "The Foot" Footerson a legend in local flag football leagues across NJ.He was personally scouted by Todd Bowles.

A down year last year but his career accuracy is better than Folk, 84.8% to 81.3%. Stronger leg also, had the 9th highest touchback % last year but can also hit it high, aiming for the corners inside the 5. Besides he is cheaper, I am assuming, and it should be a competition in camp with Ross Martin.

I liked Folk, but I appreciate the move as dictated by cap. If you want to make an omelette, you have to break a few eggs. Thanks for six good years, Nick, and I hope you land on your feet with a contender.

I have been in agreement with Mainjet of late that Mac has been a failure

To me he has not failed but C minus

If he keeps up the good work through the end of April he will pass with flying colors

So our kicking candidates are named Ross and Chandler, if we get a holder named Joey we'll have the Friends trifecta.

This is gonna be the most underrated mess up of the off-season, watch this guy cost us games with missed FGs, Folk was 27 for 31 87.1%, this dude was 21 for 28 75%. We downgraded from a solid kicker that has been reliable for us for years to this.
