I think the quarterback we sign should be solely a backup and mentor. Not someone who we think can hold the starting job down until these younger guys are ready. It's time to let Hackenburg play and in meaningful games. Sign a Nick Foles or Shaun Hill. Do not go back to Geno Smith.
If we crash and burn badly in 2017 we have a 2 out of 3 chance or 662/3 % (vs Chi Clev and Us) to gain spots 1 or 2 in the 2018 QB sweepstakes,,with 2 great QBs up for grabs I like those odds
Here is the problem. The Jets already have two QBs under contract and will likely draft another this year given their track record. Are they really going to carry four QBs again? They won't cut Hackenberg, and they won't cut this years project so that leaves Petty. Are they really going to dump Petty who is making a few hundred thousand the next two years for a Shaun Hill or Nick Foles who will cost 2-4 mil? I really think if they bring someone it will be an RG3 type who will be there simply to push the young guys in camp.
because he said in a subsequent tweet that he was referring to hackenberg. I was curious what the hell he was talking about so I looked into it. It almost seemed like it could be a joke though
Been a crazy few days with our qb options for next year. Not upset about losing out on any. Going forward what are our options: 1. Free agents: a. Bring back Geno. I'm ok with this option if no one else is out there. b. Sign Nick Foles if he is released from the Chiefs. Had a promising season. Played well last year for Smith. Not a bad option for a year. c. Cutler. With all that has gone on he is a real option for us. I say no thank you. Rather have Geno 2. Trade: a. Chase Daniel. Familiar with Morton's system. Hasn't played much. Has looked decent in some starts. Not a bad option but won't want to give up alot for him. b. Trevor Simein. Looked decent last year. Had a better supporting cast with the Broncos. Just for experience purposes not bad but don't love it. c. AJ McCarron. Would cost too much and don't think the Bengals want to give him up. Though promising very unknown. Draft: a. Watson. Starting to think if he is at 6 the Jets might take him. b. Trublisky. Get the feeling the Jets like him but might be too high at 6. If they traded back and got him in the right spot I think they'd draft him. Other options and might be leaving some out: Kapernick. Mahomes, Kizer, there are probably a few more but not sure off the top of my head now.
UPDATED QB OPTIONS: 1. Hack 2. Petty 3. Cutler 4. Kaepernick 5. Simien please add anyone else that i missed and i HATE options 3-5
Go into camp with Petty, Hack and either a vet of no certain repute or a 6th round QB as the 3 competitors. Let the best man win and then see what happens. The Jets have spent 2 2nds and a 4th on a QB in the last 4 years. It makes sense to let the 2nd still on the team and the 4th get a shot at the field next year in a low pressure no win expectations season.
At this point go w. the youngsters...yes you gotta bring in a 3rd QB...someone w. a minimal salary & decent experience. See what happens on draft day. I still say now is the most obvious inviting time to pounce on a 1st round QB..but it's gotta make sense & be the right fit. Trade down..twice if need be..and take Pat Mahomes.

not against it , but another question mark at QB Although for this season, I'd prefer young QBs as opposed to overpaying for a vet like Cutler
Ugh. I would want picks in return. Maybe a 3rd and McCarron for Sheldon. McCarron, Hack and Petty battle it out.
wow.. I just look at this dude's twitter though and the same guy is tweeting stuff about Siemen, Romo, Cutler, and now Maccarron. WTF dude you gonna report the Jets going after anyone with a pulse?
