mac is a HUGH disappointment..I homered for him too long Lets hope he gets us something decent for the AAA driver of the year
Cap update 3/1/2017 Edit: I just added this to the OP and will continue to do so to make this a more relevant thread.
to be fair. Williams was by and far our best lineman last year. he was the only jet to make the PFF top 100 at 72. he ranked 2nd in defensive stops (damon harrison was first go figure) but also added 7 sacks and was our only pro bowl player.
Due to the logjam at DE and the absence of any threat at OLB, Richardson played out of position. With Mo hampered by injuries it seems clear that Richardson played OLB because he is the only one of the three that was capable, not because he was not one of the top two DEs.
$39 million means they can bring in some pieces this year if they want. They can sign a CB, Bouye or Gilmour, and maybe a LT. But I hope they dont blow the cap on just a few players. I'd rather they sign a bunch of lower tier guys and see who can be trained up and play well enough.
Idzik had a couple years of good rollover money. Then Mac blew it all on Fitz and Revis, and here we are.
we have like 76 mil next year as of now. even with signings and such we should be able to have 50 mil for the 2018 FA
So, we started FA with 33M cap space. Signed Ijalana 5M fully guaranteed in 2017 Signed Beachum 8M (as exact details not known yet) Purdum ~1M Catanzaro 1M (calculating with that, hope no more) Lemonier ~1M W Johnson 2.7M tender M Williams 2.7M tender Plus Joshua Martin. So, I am right we have 11-12M cap space, we can still sign players but need to create cap space too. I hope my details are correct.
According to OTC we got 24 mil in space add to that Ijalana and the kicker that leaves us with 18 mil ... we need 8 for the rookie pool so that leaves us with 10 mil to spend ... mind you I think we free up close to 9 mil once Sheldon gets traded, plus I think we cut Harris save 6.5 mil and then bring him back for say a 2 year 8 mil dollar deal with a 3 mil hit for 2017 ...
Regarding Sheldon, unfortunately no, according to Cimini, Sheldon's fifth year option became guaranteed when FA started. Of course, we can still trade him but no cap space would be freed up in this case. So, our main cap savings can be Harris, Decker and Gilchrist, but Macc will hold them till we sign someone for that positions. I would be fine with holding Decker (depending on who will be our starting QB) and Harris, but would cut Gilchrist.
