I wasn't arguing what the legal system will do. I am talking about what is actually going on in reality, which is pretty independent of what is going on with the legal system. Yea, who knows what the legal system will come up with, I don't really give a shit. Both parties are equally responsible as far as I am concerned. I'm sure the legal system will coddle the so called "victims" in this case though. As far as Im concerned, everyone involved is an asshole, that is my elegant, graceful closing statement
To be fair, the post you quoted was made way before we knew anybody came to Revis' aid. There was almost no information at that point.
Yes, but that's two different issues. The two guys are assholes who earned an ass beating. But deserving an ass beating for being assholes doesn't absolve the ass beater for their actions if it breaks the law. Being an asshole is well within anyone's right. Attacking people can be criminal. In these situations we all have to weigh whether beating someone's ass is worth the possible criminal repercussions. Most sane people want to avoid jail and choose not to engage in these situations. As you've seen in many of the replies in this thread, some people don't care about the criminal repercussions and teaching an asshole a lesson provides more satisfaction than the time in jail provides a deterrent. Those people are generally considered sociopaths. So, I agree, all of them are assholes, and the two who instigated to confrontation got what they deserved. But if Revis instigated the physical attack, then he will get what he deserves, too. Whether he did or not remains to be seen.
[QUOTE="jets69, post: 3551882, https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/si/nfl/2017/02/16/darrelle-revis-assault-charges-jets-nfl-future?source=dam?client=ms-android-metropcs-us As usual Cimini is wrong. He also stated Revised can't be release until March 10 to avoid paying the $2 million bonus. They can't do it sooner because of complex rules involving the salary-cap hit. Revised is the one vet the Jets can release now. His prorated cap hit for 2016 would be $ 333,333.33. That fits under the cap for this league year. Unless the league suspends Revised before March 9. The Jets are eating the$6 million. The bottom line is the timeline just doesn't fall into place for the Jets to recover the $6 million.
So I need to delay the decision past March 9th to screw the Jets. Sounds like a plan! Your, Roger Goodell.
LOL In reality, the league suspends players after the leagal process plays out. Roger is not intentionally delaying it to screw over the Jets. If suspended now,the NFLPA would sue, putting the suspension on hold. Maybe he works a plea bargain before court next Thursday. I don't know if that's possible but the league would suspend him immediately if that were to happen. It's important to remember that according to the CBA , a plea bargain for a lesser charge carries the same penalty as a conviction of the original charge. Revised being all about the $ will probably try to get the case postponed as long as possible so he can collect as much$ as possible. The Jets were most likely going to be on the hook for the $ 6 million before all this happened , the question is, do they now try to renegotiate his contact and move him to safety or just released him. Either way, a sad ending to his career .
I'm as unhappy as the next guy with his play. I have to say though, very surprised to see Darrelle caught up in off the field issues. How far the mighty have fallen. Damn shame and a waste of a once in a generation talent. Too bad.
After seeing that short video, it doesn't sound like it's him, but then again I've never heard him yell.
I agree it doesn't sound like him. It also doesnt make a lot of sense. It certainly makes sense that a Darrelle Revis would/could punch out two fools at 3AM after the bar, but I don't see a Darrelle Revis on film talkin shit about it afterwards. More than likely he'd run afterwards and try not to make a scene based on the ramifications. He's not some average chump trying to play badass, which is what the person in the video sounds like. he might have a case here. especially if one of his buddies is willing to take the fall. DR says "it wasn't me it was my friend who knocked them out"
Revis' team hasn't even disputed it's him on the video. There's no reason to even question it at this point.
no you are wrong. They very much dispute that its him in the video, in fact, they are claiming the video is proof he didn't do it, as the guy yelling that he did it in the video, they claim isn't Revis. from his attorney "“Darrelle Revis absolutely, categorically and positively did not knock out anyone, did not conspire with anyone to commit an assault, did not say ‘shut up before I knock your ass out next,’ and surely did not ‘rob’ another of a cell phone. The voice and admissions made on the video are NOT that of Darrelle Revis. We have no doubt but that further investigation relative to the clothing and voice verification will corroborate the above assertions.” USA Today article "Darrelle Revis Attorneys Refute TMZ Video" http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...le-revis-attorneys-refute-tmz-video/98145954/
Hadn't seen that. Thing is, that seems like an easy thing for police to corroborate with the witnesses in the video -- was it Revis yelling at them or not?
yeah i agree it seems pretty easy to verify one way or another. Which is why it would seem odd for DR's attorneys to speak strongly against the video if it was him. Seems like they'd take another strategy. We'll see what happens in court I guess
Im still tryin to understand how a guy that wouldnt hit anybody all year long suddenly finds the strength to knockout 2 guys in a fight. #mysterious
