In his first draft with the Jets, he took Leonard Williams despite being strong at his position. Darron Lee fit that trend as well, as many expected Lee to be gone by the time New York was on the clock. In his final draft with Houston as the director of college scouting in 2014, the Texans wisely passed on Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel for Jadeveon Clowney. In the two drafts before that, the Texans landed DeAndre Hopkins and Whitney Mercilus late in the first round. Thus, Maccagnan's track record is clear, and the Jets are going to take the best player available with the sixth-overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
this makes me happy, i'll take any share of optimistic news i can get as a jets fan I will say that I do think talk of the Jets taking a QB at #6 is misinformed. Mac has CLEARLY taken the BPA in his time here so far and none of these QBs are close to being worth the value at #6

The last time we went BPA, we drafted a guy we really didn't need. If this is how its gonna be going forward, I have very little hope for this team improving in my lifetime. I really, REALLY hope there's not a standout DE or DT in this draft.
We can be wrong about Trubisky but what I saw from him against Stanford was not impressive. Solomon Thomas had him rattled all game, which is where a legit QB shows his true colors, and he just could not get his team over the finish line in that game. Not saying he will not be good, but he is a project QB at this point, no way he comes in against NFL defenses and starts producing. I hope the jets stay away from him. I'm glad there is some good news coming out of Jets camp about Hack.

I don't think he belongs in the same class as a Watson. I do agree, he's crumbled a lot of times under pressure. The Duke game, I thought he really got exposed as a QB that doesn't make the best decisions under pressure. I hope the Bears take him for sure!
This isn't good news...it's the company line. This is exactly what the Jets have been saying publicly.
They drafted Williams then forgot to do something with Sheldon or Mo. Didn't need him true but if they handled the situation correctly would have been a genius move. Instead, arguably our most talented and promising players are either getting in each other's way for time or not able to make enough of an impact on the game as a unit where the investment is just wasted
Not that this means anything because it doesn't, but the rap on Tom Brady coming out of college was that he was a bit slow-footed and tended to be stiff under heavy pressure, not making the greatest decisions at times. He had a good arm and text book size for an NFL QB at the time but there was something in his decision making process that went awry now and then. It seems ridiculous 17 years later but that's how he was perceived and how he wound up falling to the 6th round in a draft when the best QB prospect out there was Chad Pennington, who was thought to be Brady's mirror image, a cool customer under pressure who made very good decisions and was NFL ready despite an average arm at best. The Pats devised a system that minimized the number of throws Brady had to make under heavy pressure and he became one of the greatest QB's of all time. Who did he have trouble beating on the way there? Rex Ryan - who put him under a lot of pressure. The NY Giants pass rush - which put him under a lot of pressure. Trubinsky might well be the best QB in this class despite looking overwhelmed at times in college. It's not a deep talented class and nobody has any idea if there's a franchise QB out there at this point. If the Jets could trade down and get him and some more value in the process it might be a great move.
i really dont like the "bpa" method....i understand it, but i prefer to see a best player available at a certain position approach, matching ur team needs with the strength of the draft. for example, this upcoming draft has a bunch of talented DL, DE, LB, and secondary. well it just so happens the jets need LB and secondary help so if they take the BPA from the LB and secondary positions, thats OK. if not, its the same ole jets. LOL
