2016 ended with a (5-11) record and no excitement whatsoever in the future of this franchise. What is the goal each year in the NFL? Win the Super Bowl. How close are the Jets do accomplishing this? Not close at all. So I was trying to figure out a realistic way for the Jets to win the Super Bowl. Some teams can come out of nowhere and make a Super Bowl run. It has happened in the past, yet unlikely. So here it is: IF Hackenberg or Petty turn out to be a solid QB, the Jets could realistically get back on track in 2017. Make a playoff run in 2018 and then finally return to the Super Bowl in 2019 with Super Bowl LIV. If neither of those QB's work out, you have to tack on a year in hopes that the right QB does come in. So best case scenario is a Super Bowl title in February 2020. If Todd Bowles turns out to be the joke many think he is, you don't have to necessarily tack on too many years, as long as Mike Maccagnan does his job properly by building the team in Free Agency/The Draft and hiring Bowles' replacement. Jets Path to a 2nd World Championship: 2017: (8-8) 2018: (10-6) playoff appearance, reach divisional round) 2019: (12-4) Win AFC East, reach and win Super Bowl We would sign up for that in a heart beat. I truly feel that is the best case scenario though. So worst case? The Jets continue down a terrible path with no QB and no Coach. Instead of making progress in 2017, they get worse and officially do blow everything up. That moves any Super Bowl plans into the 2020's. Obviously this is a hypothetical thread, but when do you think the Jets could make a serious Super Bowl run? Can they do it faster than I said? Will it take much longer? Like I said at the beginning: That is the goal. It's why we watch. There needs to be hope of it happening potentially, otherwise: what is the point?
No disrespect but those W-L records aren't happening here that soon, not until we get a real QB. I'd rather: 2-14 (2017) 6-10 (2018) - draft a franchise QB (Darnold, Jackson, Rosen and probably others by this time next year). 9-7 (2019) 11-5 (2020) And average 10-11 wins every year after that with the QB and building the rest of the team simultaneously.
No disrespect at all. I wanted to hear other people's opinions. And yes, those records I posted I said were best case scenarios. Thanks byz!
2017 2-14 Bowles gets fired. Franchise QB selected. Big Name coach hired 2018 + beyond...hopefully everything falls into place after that For reference see 1996 1-15 1997 9-7 1998 12-4
This is closer to the truth I think. Although I don't think the Jets are going 2-14, and will more likely go 4-12 or maybe 5-11 and take themselves out of the hunt for a franchise QB in the 2018 draft, thus prolonging the rebuild. As things sit right now, I'm really hoping they go "all in" and try to get Watson because I really don't think they're going to have a better shot at a FQB for a while. Failing that, I hope that Petty or Hack surprise everyone and become above-average at least. Least likely, and least preferable, is for them to sign a better QB than they have who doesn't cost them too much, or who is a FQB, but on this last point, I don't know if anyone like that is available. Cousins maybe, but he's going to cost so much and still no guarantee, so I wouldn't sign him. So my guess: 2017 - 4-12 2018 - 7-9 2019 - 9-7 2020 - 10-6 21021 - 11-5
That is highly possible too, however, the Jets have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL lately. That is part of their problem. I would love for them to continue to build and get better year-to-year like your projections say. Would be nice.
Here's a probable timeline: 2020 - Man discovers new propulsion system and returns to the moon. 2023 - Jets finally get new Stadium and new Ownership 2025 - Nations unite to send a manned mission to Mars. 2025 - Jets return to SB.
A few years ago, a friend asked me when the Jets would win the SB. I laughed and told him Donald Trump would have a better chance of becoming president. I was right.
I have a better solution. 1. Jets break away from NFL. They create their own league called Jets Football League [JFL] 2. League structure is as following: Jets, and scrubs from all over America, preferably with daytime jobs so they can't practice. [Minimum 1 more team will do.] 3. Jets will crush the competition each and every season, going undefeated. 4. And they win the championship, aptly called [Super Bowl.] Jets can start winning starting this coming year without any CS or roster change. Revis will be shutting down every receiver. And Fitzmagic will be shredding the opposing defense like a hot knife through butter.
I will feel at peace if Macc addresses the O-Line early and often this coming draft. It will prove he has his mind set on 2018 and beyond, with using 2017 as a real youth evaluation and development process
If they were the only team in the league they would still lose, Zach! If Fitz was the only player on the field he would still throw an Int....
