Rex is only a defensive genius when he has defensive studs. The man is a blow hard like his father and brother.

Couldn't agree more. His one great skill is being a "salesman". He's able to sell himself to unwitting owners who think that his brand of football can take them to the promised land, when in fact it's rather outdated and behind the times.

I'm ashamed to admit that I was one of the ones who fell for it back in 2009 when he came roaring into town, pumping the franchise up with what turned out to be entirely false bravado. After being burned on that one, no HC that comes into town will get that kind of benefit of the doubt from me ever again. Should have seen it coming because, well, it's the Jets.

When Ryan took over, the Bills ranked No. 4 in total defense. The unit fell to 19th in his first season, and was ranked the same upon his firing.
Not only a lousy HC, but he is an average DC (maybe).

I like rex.......i know he can go over the top but i like his effort and team spirit.

Regarding his D - he is a good D coach IMO, but he definitely needs the horses for the 3-4/4-6 alignments meaning a big NT, classic 3-4 rushbacker, and 1 shut down corner. If any of those are missing, his D will flounder at the worst possible times.

We had a nice D in most of the time 09/10.....especially when jenkins was in there and revis was revis.

Do think he will resurface as a coordinator next.

Everyone dancing on Rex's grave should understand that if the Bills had 11 defenders on the field for the one big play they beat the Dolphins and enter week 17 with playoff hopes alive.

The Bills did not lose because of personnel or because of defensive schemes but one stupid mistake.

While that mistake should not happen in pro football, is it any worse than the Jets plays on special teams? The Bills could line up nine guys and play better special teams than us.

We've had Rex Ryan discussions so much there is no reason to go over it again.

But results show he is a better coach than Bowles, and firing him after two 8-8 seasons seems pretty quick. There must have been some behind the scenes stuff.

Who is out there that's better?

Hopefully the Pegulas really are clueless impatient owners. And they will keep that franchise in a state of flux year after year. We need someone to compete with for last place.

The problem is Rex teams seem to make those mistakes over and over. Whether it is stupid penalties, bad clock management or only having 10 men on the field, Rex teams always seem to be in those situations. Once or twice you can blame others but when it is all the time it goes to the top.

What studs did the Jets have other than maybe Revis in his early years when the defense was always 1 or 2?

Beat me to it. Rex let the Miami game get away from him. Mistakes in OT play calling offensively are on him too. He's never in command of the whole team during the game.

It matters when the next game with Brady IN Buffalo they scored 9000 points. Really Rex hasn't 'solved' Brady much since 2010 and his defenses have been worse each year. The league caught up to Rex and he's too stubborn to admit it or adjust.

Jenkins was injured most of 2009 and 2010 when the defense was at its best. Pouha was decent, but he was no Jenkins.
