I dont think Powell is better than Forte based only on the SF game. My cousin is a long time Bears fan and what he told me is absolutely right...he is a steady back....dependable but not dynamic. He cant turn something out of nothing. He seems to shut his eyes when he is hitting the hole missing wide open cut back lanes...ie Bell from Pittsburgh. Also his inability to make safeties miss in open space has cost us several td's this year...1 man to beat..he gets tripped up.
Forte used to be dynamic, either your cousin doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's a typical fan that trashes players when they leave. The guy used to be an absolute beast, but he started getting injured and his production started dropping. Then he comes here and guess what? He's injured. The guy may be a has-been, but he was a monster for a while.
Hmmm.....every time the backup RB has a big game it's like a dog whistle to Jet fans. Fondly remembering "Johnny Hector is better than Freeman McNeil" "Lamont Jordan is better than Curtis Martin" "Shawn Greene is better than Thomas Jones" No, no and no. And another no - Bilal Powell is not better than Matt Forte
I never heard anyone claim that Hector was better than Freeman McNeil, and Hector was certainly better than Jordan, Greene and maybe even Jones. Jordan did show a lot of promise for a season or two that he could be a more dynamic back, but never lived up to it. I think the thing that some fans loved about Jordan is that he could score from anywhere on the field whereas CuMar couldn't. Jordan was also tough to bring down and fought for yardage, and you could look at CuMar cross-eyed and he'd go down or run out of bounds. He almost never fought for yardage. CuMar was the consummate professional, hard worker, great teammate and citizen, did everything very well, but wasn't really great at anything. He stayed healthy and so could be a workhorse, and he seemed to get stronger as the game went on. Jordan, evidently was lazy and never really worked to develop and get better like CuMar did. I did see a few fans on the Jets site where I was posting at the time claim that they thought Jordan was better, but they soon realized that they were wrong. Greene was just a good complimentary back for a season or two. I never saw anyone claim that he was better than Jones.
It doesn't matter who is better. It matters how you use them and when you use them. Use them both to their strengths.
Here are a few mock drafts. 5. New York Jets: Cordrea Tankersley, CB, Clemson 5. New York Jets: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU 5. New York Jets: Jabrill Peppers, LB/DB Michigan 6. New York Jets: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU 6. NY Jets Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina, QB 5. New York Jets — Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
He is in 2016 and beyond. Powell was a major contributor down the stretch in 2015. Him not playing in week 17 last season is one of the biggest reasons why the Jets didn't beat Buffalo. He was greatly missed.
I hope Forte doesn't play tonight or for the rest of the season or in 2017 for the Jets. Take your sweet time healing from this injury like you did in training camp with the pulled hammy you stinkin' old JAG. IT'S BILAL'S TIME TO SHINE!!!!!!
Well, SF is ranked 32nd in run defense, and Miami is ranked 30th, so the only way this game is going to tell us something about Powell is if he doesn't gain many yards. Ron
Forte clearly has had the better career...but as of now...the best rb for the Jets is BP. After that first half who can deny that?
I agree that BP is better for the Jets now. He's faster, more of a threat to break a long run or take a reception the distance.
I like Matt Forte, he is a class act but this just shows you how meaningless stats can be: Brian Costello @BrianCoz 18h18 hours ago Matt Forte moved into 34th place in NFL history with 9,415 rushing yards. Moved past Earl Campbell on Saturday night #nyj He couldn't shine Earl Campbell's cleats
