I've gone through a year of a big tanking season (Maple Leafs last year) so I know what it's like when you win a meaningless game. It's different in football obviously because of the amount of games played, and as frustrating as it is, as a fan of a team, sometimes it does feel nice to win one. Just not against a team that sucks worse than yours.
Petty looked good enough to be excited to watch how he does next week.Atleast theres a reason to watch now
I'm a leaf fan too. I thought I was the only one who loved the Leafs and Jets and endured all the painful blunders. At least I know someone else goes through the same shit lol
Win or lose, there can be no doubt after today, the Jets and the Niners are two of the shittiest teams in the league right now. God, it was so bad.
It reminded me of the Geno play against Tampa the opening game a few seasons back with Levante David. I did actually think Geno was trying to draw the penalty then lol. I don't know if that's going through someone's mind on a 3rd and 12 when you're 3-9 though, I just think Petty was a bit skittish about getting rid of the ball in general.
Funny, I was going to mention that play. To Petty he isn't 3-9. He was 0-1 today on the final drive to try to tie the game. I wouldn't doubt him trying to draw the penalty.
This is another thread where people think a team full of guys trying to win multi-million dollar contacts will just stop playing. I'm not talking about Revis, who has basically won the contacts that Uncle Sean advised him to win, I mean young hungry guys that dreamed of playing in the NFL are playing for. You think they're going to lay down and slack out for draft position? How stupid are you?
I have never understood people's ideas of tanking because of the reason you outlined above. Why would players not give it their all when at this point in the season when many are playing for their jobs next year? Why would they not play to their best ability for a better draft choice when they may even be on the team next year? In most instances it just doesn't make sense to expect teams to lose on purpose.
Petty led us back down 14 on the road in the west coast ... Idc against who its the NFL and that made me proud ! have we ever even done that ... anyone !?!?! I just can't root for us to tank its not like it really matters I mean look at our pathetic history ... Sanchz Robertson Gholston we play it out and may the players land where they fall ... Revis Mo Mangold were not top 10 picks last night made me proud and gave me hope something I didn't have 2 weeks ago ...
we dont need to necessariyl draft a qb. we need elite top end talent at alot of spots: CB, LT, Edge rusher... not just QB. those are the 4 most important position in football and we dont have a top end player at ANY of them.
Not to mention; tanking and lack of effort increases injury potential, and aside from Heath Shuler, these guys can only earn an income playing football.
Tanking sucks. There's no value in tanking in the NFL. You can always get the players you want - either trade up, or sign them where they are. Can anybody point to three instances where tanking helped in the NFL in the last 30 years? Please don't tank. Win every game you can.
easily. Tampa Bay in 2014, Tennessee in 2014, Colts in 2012. I just went back 5 years, I didnt need 30
Only people that think the NFL is Madden and are under the age of 13 would ever think this way. This is the NFL and if you tank your career could be very well over tomorrow. Winning and learning to win is part of a team. Notice the people screaming for people heads are only on here when the Jets lose. Firing the coaches and the GM after 2 seasons is asinine, that is how bad organizations act. We want to see fight in this team and the players that "tank" should be cut.
