Well, the only defense he reads in practice is the Jets, so there's that, LOL! He needs game experience. Teams we play are better at both disguising and executing.

But I'm with you. He's got some toys in the bag. :)

Let's hope he "evolves" or "develops" and not "devolves." ;)

Guy, you're talking out of your ass! You have no clue how Mac and the scouts viewed or now view Petty. He has shown nothing because they knew he would be a project last season, and the Jets had 4 QBs this season, he was injured in preseason and missed 2 months, and has had few reps in practice to develop or get ready.

We don't need to understand any such thing. You're being totally ridiculous.

It's WAAAAAAAAY too early to make any kind of statement like you did regarding Petty or Hack.

All you succeeded in doing is making yourself look dumb.

I didn't see the entire Rams game, but I did see clips from it, and he was going through his progressions. He's a smart kid. He hasn't had many reps this season, and who knows what kind of coaching he's been getting.

Fitz has made a career from one read and chucking it. I think Petty can be more than that, but even if not, he's a better version of Fitz that I could live with until Hack develops or the Jets draft and develop another young QB.

You don't know what he's shown in practice! You're assuming that because of Bowles stupid comments and preference for Fitz, but given that Bowles is a clueless twit who only cares about himself and trying to save his job, none of us knows how Petty has looked in practice or what his true potential is.

Again you're assuming and making an ass out of yourself.

They dumbed it down for him in the Rams game and only threw it deep a couple of times. Other than that it was dink and dunk, don't turn it over, hand it to Forte etc.. He wasn't very accurate and missed a bunch of easy throws.

Last night they let him air it out. It seemed he stubbornly locked onto Anderson and the D quickly adjusted resulting in INT #1. He continued to lock onto Anderson and on that final one play drive, he didn't notice the DB who undercut the route. Enumwa was his check down and was wide open in the middle of the field. That's basic stuff he's not getting. His pocket awareness was also bad and led to that sack by their fat ass nose tackle.

He needs and deserves reps, but last night only showed me that he has a strong arm - not that he's a smart kid. I'm nowhere near convinced he can be an adequate QB, but will gladly eat crow and gush his praises if he can get his shit together and lead us..

He was a last minute starter in the Rams game and it was an awful game plan. He didn't get most of the reps that week.

He may prove to be nothing but a backup or career wannabe, but imo it's way too early to tell. Get him some quality coaching, give him the practice reps and devise a game plan around what he does well, then let's see how he does.

I didn't like that he was locked onto Anderson and went to him so many times, but it appeared to me that the two of them are friends or that Petty thought that he needed to get on the same page with Anderson to help loosen up the underneath routes. There's no question that he's still raw and has stuff to learn. He has an arm like we haven't seen in quite a while however, and I hope they give him every opportunity to succeed. If they want to sign Glennon or re-sign Geno to compete with Petty and Hack next spring/summer, fine. I just don't want some old JAG brought in. I'd rather they fully commit to Petty and Hack and bust their asses to develop one or both of them.

I guess Goff sucks, Dak sucks, Favre sucked, Warner sucked because they either got traded before anyone gave them a chance or the gameplan is dumbed because they are young. No way Dak is a better passer, and Goff was first overall. These guys have taken all the reps in practice leading up to a game. Petty hasn't had the chance to take all the reps in practice. Like he said, he can ask questions regarding the gameplan during the week and feel more prepared. Guys who have made an assessment from a guy that has had very few reps all year AND coming off an injury, just want him to fail. It's OK to bash Bowles, except when it comes to evaluating QBs - he suddenly knows what he is doing.

From what I've seen of him, he has way above average physical tools, and you can't coach that. You can coach the mental stuff, and I'm willing to bet any shortcoming in that department lies with Bowles, Gailey and the other coaches. Petty lit it up in college, and yes, it was a spread offense, but it proves that he's capable once he learns how a pro set works, and he's been studying that for almost two years - much longer than Prescott. I'm not guaranteeing that he's the Franchise QB, but let's give him a real honest chance before we toss him aside.

Can the guy get a full start before anyone shits on him?

Colts played zone all day against him with cover 6. He also was told last minute to play against the Rams and then brought in 3rd quarter vs Colts.

The guy needs some game action...4 games to showcase himself. Hopefully he doesnt stink it up like Greg Mcelroy. But more of a chance that happens then he doesnt.

I must have seen the one good series McElroy had, because I remember thinking he looked pretty good (I don't get many Jets games out here). But what do I know? I thought Joey Harrington was going to be a star in Motown, but ....

Yeah, just like when I thought Mark Sanchez was going to be the next big QB...What do I know now? We literally are gambling with QBs.

Sure bets are so rare. Who was the last? Andrew Luck?

Seems like Petty and the Jets are perfectly set up for a Run & Shoot offense.
Offensive line pass blocks well, but sucks at run blocking.
Anderson and Devin Smith on the outside, Q and Marshall as inside receivers.
Peake and ASJ as big-bodied rotational receivers.
Forte & Powell are receiving threats out of the backfield.
We don't have a TE or a FB who are doing anything right now....

    And Petty can chuck it.
We already go 4-wide every play. Now we just need some plays where the WRs actually go down field!

Wouldn't it be nice to see the opposing defenses all spread out, instead of all bunched up?

And keep the pace fast. Wear defenses out. Would love to see it!

Mehhhhh. He has a LONG way to go. It's obvious the Jets weren't pleased with how little he improved last season considering Geno and Fitz were brought back, another QB was drafted in the 2nd, and camp reports said he'd be the odd man out before Geno (verified by depth chart). I've always been realistic in hoping he would turn into a good backup QB which hopefully he can still become. It's far too early to give up on him, absolutely, but it's not like he hasn't been watched everyday for 2 seasons now. Based on how he plays in these last 4 games should indicate whether he has a roster spot next season. Have to imagine the camp roster will be:

    Vet
    Hack
    ---
    Petty
    Young FA/Rookie
