This may seem like a negative rant, but consider it truth. This team from top to bottom, is headed in the wrong direction fast. There is very little to be optimistic about, yet there is talent in spots.
    QB- nothing on this roster
RB- Powell is a decent player, but Forte is about finished, time to move away from him. Too slow, hates contact, but in his defense, our line sucked at run blocking.
WR- Decker is prone to Inj, Enunwa, is a rising talent, Marshall has 1-2 decent years left. All others are still trying to figure the position out at the NFL level.
    TE- None on this team
OL- mangold is the best remaining and he is done. Giacomini, Carpenter, Clady are finished. Winters improved but still stinks, all others have a very long way to becoming NFL starters. The unit cannot support an excellent RB. Ezekiel Elliott would not be a 1,000 yard rusher on this team.
Offensive coaches- not much on this team, let Gailey go play golf again. He is way too conservative, and worse still, had to have Fitz as a starter to be as good an offense as we have been both seasons.
No other offensive position coaches did anything to speak of. See any jumps of increased player productivity? Me neither.

DL- Wilk has taken the year off, Richardson has played, but all over the field. Maybe next year he will play corner, show Revis how to do it again. Williams, only guy on the team to start and play 110% on every play. McClendon had a good year, due to himself or surrounding players? All others working for minutes.
LB- Lee, Mauldin, Jenkins are our future core under this regime. Would they be under another coach? Maybe better? Maybe not at all?
CB- Skrine was our best on the roster all season. What exactly does this say? Revis either took the year off, or Macc blew it bad on this resigning. All else need time to change. Weakest spot on the roster?
S- Pryor still needs a ton of work, but shows the most in comparison to all others. Gilchrist is done on this team. Played terrible all season, especially if you consider how many blown coverages by the entire secondary, may have been on his shoulders.

    Special teams
K- we need a new and improved version.
P- Edwards looked good early, may be overworked, isn't consistent.
KR- our team is still looking.
    PR- same as KR

Our Defensive coordinator is under the influence of Bowles, we don't know what we have. If he believes Bowles, that's a strike.
Our CB/S position coaches must go.
Our LB position coach must follow.
Neither position could guard anything all season. Passing the football against this team seemed so easy all game, every game, no matter the opponent.

Head Coach- Bowles is responsible for choosing strategy, adjusting strategy, starters, substitution patterns and grouping for each game considering week to week opponents. I'm sure he gets final say on all decisions during each game. Truth is he isn't very good at any of it. He is quiet, because he is lost. He may not be ready for the job in a decade.
GM- Macc appeared to turn a losing team into a competitor last season with major hopes for this season. What we have now is a Lottery pick in the draft, and multiple players who were overpaid drastically if you consider their production. He didn't address two critical areas last season, and believed he had addressed other positions correctly, but he doesn't appear to have an idea between good and bad decisions. He hasn't drafted well either, and to say otherwise (because it's only year two) is silly.

Anyone can see this team needs blown up. I hate the rebuild process worse than anything, but we need to change direction.
The players see it too, because they have quit. They don't see a leader, and they sure as hell are not being held accountable for their play on the field.
We either move on from this junk, or get use to losing and rare mediocrity from time to time. I'm ready for a Super Bowl, not the product us long time fans get each game. We have talent, but what we do have is incomplete and mismanaged.

Yeesh. It doesn't look good. I really thought this was gonna be some team. I feel pretty dumb.
The Jets may be legitimately cursed. Danggit.

The future of the team is a lot more disheartening than the performance of the 2016 team. It's very grim.

I had hopes and doubts, but feel dumb for the $300 spent on Sunday ticket. Maybe before I die, I will witness a JETS Super Bowl opportunity. I don't believe it will be under the Bowles/Macc regime.

Unless we find some miracle QB ala Dak Prescott or something, I think we're likely looking at the next 10 to 15 years of us competing with the Browns for title of "NFL's black hole." This team is in total disarray.

Now, I can't fully blame any of the GMs for their lack of success at finding a franchise QB; if you look at top 5 picks, you're much more likely to end up with a Mark Sanchez than you are with a Payton Manning. Also, late round picks are MUCH more likely to be Greg McElroy than Tom Brady.

The problem right now is that while the NFL is becoming more and more pass-first, the college game is becoming more and more run-first. Year after year, the best QB prospects are coming from read option offenses where they were more of running backs with some passing ability than true QBs. Less and less have actual extensive experience playing under center. But when they get to the NFL, they're then expected to adapt and play almost a whole new position. Then people scratch their heads and wonder why QBs like RGIII, Tim Tebow, or Geno Smith are unable to start their rookie year with Tom Brady-esque pocket presence. Unless the Jets find their own Tom Brady, or one of the 1st rounders this year turns out to be more than a game manager, the Jets are in for a long decade.

Sadly, this is a good analysis. And worse, I don't think Woody, Mac, or anyone else now connected with the team will be able to fix it. I hope and pray they can, but I really don't think so. And it's because I believe that there is a "death spiral theory" of franchises, that when they fall into it, they can't get out without a major revamping, often requiring new ownership, although that by itself isn't enough - it has to be new ownership with a clue. The Red Sox couldn't break their curse, nor could the Cubs, until they got new ownership/management that knew what they were doing. This "death spiral" occurs because the clueless owners/management either follows a hands-off approach when the team needs someone (knowledgeable) who is hands-on; or the owner/management inserts themselves and screws things up. In other words their timing and judgment is always off. This can go on for years and decades until an owner/management that really understands the sport takes over. We haven't had this since Ewbank left. Is there someone out there who can be the Answer for the Jets? I hope so.

All I can say is, the Raiders used to be us. They were as dysfunctional a organization as there ever was in the NFL. They made head scratching moves, drafted poorly and the result was they sucked for quite some time. Then they got lucky after Big Al passed on. They seemed to have gotten their shit together PDQ. McKenzie has been their GM for only 5 years and guess what? They've not only passed us, but we're not even playing on the same field as the Raiders. During that same 5 years the Raiders went from shit to sugar, the Jets went from sugar to shit.

Point being, we're gonna have to look in the mirror and root cause this disease called Acute Mediocrity. If that means tearing it down and starting over, what do we have to lose? Its not like we're contending, we're pretending. If things rot from the top down, then maybe Woody should take the Ambassador Job in the UK and delegate the running of the team to a true FB savant.

    My 2 cents

I'm as big a Marshall fan as there is, but he has NOT been the same this year. He can't get off jams, WAAAY too many drops and disappears too often.

Wilkerson, I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed. (Killed me when my old man used that on me) Last nights effort was a disgrace, stood right up and didn't even rush half the time. And I was happy when we extended him. i was wrong.

Richardson seems to be about himself.

O-line needs a complete overhaul, except for Mangold. He's not what he used to be but he would be a good vet presence with new faces.

Yea Wilkerson literally didn't move the OL from the LOS all game. That's pathetic. It's sad when you see the kids like Leonard Williams, Deon simon, Darron LEE flying around while Revis and Wilkerson have mailed the season in. Sickening.

Whenever Wilk recognized he was drawing a double team, he didn't even frikkin try!

Wilk should be benched and Revis cut mid-season as an example that mediocrity will no-longer be tolerated.

Forget Revis's HOF movement, he shouldn't even be considered for the Jets Ring of Honor the way he held us hostage via contract, went to the Pats, and extorted MORE money out of us with this shit attitude

I don't necessarily agree with some of the players you labeled as done, or not promising. My breakdown,

QB = largely unknown. Petty gets next 4 games to show what he is or isn't. Hack bashing may be more warranted next year depending on how the offseason pans out.

Running Back - Powell is a good back, but is underutilized. Forte also solid back but obviously not as shifty as he once was. If we are at 5 in the draft and Leonard Fournette is there I take him because he is a beast and would instantly provide a huge problem to opposing defenses.

Tight Ends - All should be cut from the roster, Austin Sefarian Jenkins could have developed into something but he just doesn't seem to be improving. May be a position to address in the draft or free agency.

WR = most promising group on the team IMO, a lot of young talent, Either Decker or Marshall should be cut.

O- Line = one of the weakest groups on the team. Clady, Giacomini and Mangold may all be cut. I would personally bring Mangold back on a 3 year deal with an opt out in the third year. I think he can man the fort for another year or two. Winters, Johnson, should be re-signed, Ijalana got abused yesterday but he is good depth.

Cornerbacks - we are going to need to address this through free agency and the draft. Revis needs to be cut and Marcus William is overrated.

Safeties - Pryor is way too up and down but should be brought back and should only play in the box, have to replace Gilchrist, he sucks.

Dline - Leo Williams is by far the best player, Mo wilkerson should be traded or cut, despite how prohibitive that mite be, and Sheldon Richardson should be traded for a 4th round pick.

Deion Simon can evolve into a snacks type player, and has been a pleasant surprise as a run stuffer.

All in all, there are a few pieces on this team that flash every week with effort and talent. Those who do not, who are aging, and who are overpaid need to be axed. Do this team and this fan base a solid and get rid of the dead weights. Get a real head coach and a real supporting cast to run a legitimate NFL program and let's right this ship.

If we pay Eric Berry whatever he wants and draft a dominating pass rusher a new coach could make our defense dangerous.
