I've been away for the past month recuperating/rehabbing from hip surgery but was absolutely incensed by Gailey's play calling and overall offensive game plan against the rams last Sunday. Petty is a QB who clearly needs to establish a rhythm, i.e. make throws to complete throws. In trying to minimize pressure and the possibility of mistakes by Petty, Gailey's ridiculously conservative and predictable play calling only served to increase the pressure on Petty by constantly forcing him into 3rd and long situations. I just don't get it. Playoffs are not happening. Why not give Petty the opportunity to grow and show what he's capable of doing by letting him THROW the damn ball???? After the second of one of Forte's long running plays, Gailey should have given Petty a shot to throw the ball on f***ing first down while we momentarily had the Ram's D on their heels. How many times, if any, did Gailey allow Petty to throw the ball on first or second down? Once? Twice? Any time at all? By trying to "protect" Petty, Gailey set him up to fail more than anyone.
Well Gailey is part of the CS and the entire CS has to go so yeah I agree Gailey has to go. As long as Bowles and the rest of the staff is going too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Im 85% sure he is gone along with Fitzpatrick...The team needs a shake up, I dont think Bowles may last either if the team loses the way they are right now. Defense is so ghastly.
So we should get rid of the only OC that Petty has worked with since being drafted mid season, and bring in someone that is going to want to implement his own system, philosophy, mechanics and techniques on a 2nd year QB that was already deemed to be a project?....... Oh and shit can our HC after his 2nd year as well. This is what makes teams disfunctional, you have to have continuity and the time to develop relationships. I'm not happy with Bowles either but the worst thing you could do is start making mid season changes or an HC change after only 2 years. These guys have to get their system in place and players who can play in it, this doesn't happen over night. OC change mid season would tank Petty's career.
The simple answer is yes and that doesn't make a franchise dysfunctional. Continuing to hire incompetent CS is what makes a franchise dysfunctional. They would look even more dysfunctional by bringing back an incompetent CS in order to not look dysfunctional.
Geezus.... And the cycle continues.... Fire OC, Fire Coach, Fire GM ..... Fire OC, Fire Coach, Fire GM ...... Fire OC, Fire Coach, Fire GM We went 10-6 last year and our offense set franchise records now you people want everyone fired. Give me a break
gaily has done a good job. best OC we've had in a long time. lets not forget we had a top 10 offense last year. It's not his fault that the jets lead the NFL in dropped passes, and turnovers. or that the o-line is bad and we don't have a TE on the roster that should be in the NFL (besides ASJ who we just got and is hurt) That TD call against the rams was an amazing play call.
IMO this is chicken little bullshit and not supported by evidence. It's the same argument used to keep schottenheimer and sanchez for years after they demonstrated their ineffectiveness. People need to show some balls when losing instead of going down quietly. This said I'm not for firing Gailey--just take the straight-jacket off Petty and go down firing.
That's the thing: 2015 was great. The offense looked fantastic. Brick Retired, Decker got hurt, Fitz did not play as well, many factors have played into the 2016 offense being worse. Forte has actually played pretty well. Powell too. Johnson filling in for Mangold has been impressive. I don't think Gailey has been as good as 2015 either, and Sunday's game made him look worse than he is. They clearly were trying to protect Petty. It sucked though, cause Petty throwing 3 INT in defeat, would be the exact same as doing nothing all game then being forced to try the final drive and thrown an INT. Let the kid play. The true problem is the Jets defense. It was supposed to be a strength and it has been an EMBARRASSMENT. You want to fire Gailey? Fine, but Rodgers should go first. He is pathetic.
I think Mac needs to sit down with his CS at the end of the season and ask them how they intend to correct things moving forward. If they give him a plan that he believes in, they should get another chance to implement it. If they aren't accountable and forward-looking (i.e. excuses and blame-shifting), they should be let go. This same approach would also work for many of the players.
You give us a break. Fitz had a career year and the Jets had a cupcake schedule last year. Even then there were bad decisions, bad clock management and games where the team wasn't prepared. How are Fitz and that offense doing now? How's that defense playing? They're worse and this CS has no answers. This year the team has been flat out unprepared for most games, has beaten itself with stupid penalties, mental errors, sloppy play, lousy execution, the game planning has been lousy, as has been the play calling, Bowles has regressed in terms of in game adjustments, and has shown zero improvement in clock and game management, and it's looking more and more like he has lost the team. Stability doesn't come from just having the same CS and FO for a long period of time. Stability comes from having the right CS and FO in place for a long time. We kept Rex too long. I don't think anything positive can be gained by keeping this CS in place for another year. If anything, it will just waste next season, and possibly ruin whatever chances some of our younger players have of developing and/or succeeding.
Sorry to hear about your hip surgery! I hope it went well and you are healing on or ahead of schedule and will have no further issues with it.
No one wants the GM fired, at least I don't yet. there is nothing wrong with changing OC or DC, the Ravens have fired 3 OC the last 2 season, Rex fired his OC after a couple of games this year. The Gailey and Fitz combo have gotten the jets 3 wins this season, what happened from last year? continuity should make things better not worse. Apparently their system only works when the schedule is soft, that's not the kind of system we as fans should want for our team. So next year the schedule will be weak and Gaileys system will be productive again and the jets will have a top ten offense. No thanks.
They should pose the same question to him as well. How can a CS fix the problems if the GM has a flawed drafting philosophy. Is he going to draft another QB or is he going to get some oline help? Can they ask him to stop signing aging players who have nothing left in the tank, or trading away draft picks for players who don't fit their scheme? There is plenty of blame to go around with this team, I have no problems if they are willing to let go of Gailey and bring someone else in that uses a more balanced attack. I despise these 4 WR and empty backfield formations all the time. There are only a handful of teams that can run those types of offenses. It's like the NFL is the professional version of college football, no balance on offense anymore.
I understand the backlash, but this cycle wont stop until the Jets have a "franchise QB." The OC is always the number one scapegoat for teams with struggling offenses. After that is the HC. And after that is the OL and weapons. I have seen enough all-22 film to know that Chan Gailey hasn't been nearly as awful as the fanbase is making him out to be. Dont misconstrue this as me saying he has been great, he hasn't. However, from what I've seen, there are numerous open options every game, but the QB(s) cant or wont hit them. When you have a QB that threw 15 interceptions in the first 5 games, its tough for me to put that on the OC. If Fitz had half the amount of interceptions that he actually does, Jets would be in a much better spot. I dont think replacing the whole staff makes sense right now. I'm giving them another year.
HOME: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Kansas City, San Diego, Atlanta, Carolina, AFC South* AWAY: Buffalo, Miami, New England, Denver, Oakland, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, AFC North* Next year's schedule. Not a chance the Jets have a top 10 offense.... Doubt they win more than 5 games if that.
