My guess would be someone like Tony Romo. I know that sounds awful. But Mac and Bowles unwillingness to give the young guys like Petty and Hack a chance at starting is very telling to me. That tells me that they don't trust Petty to make sound decisions with the football. Where Hack barely even saw the field in the preseason makes me think they definitely do not trust him. It tells me that the Jets starting QB for 2017 is not currently on the roster.

IMO, Mac will go after a veteran to hedge the gap to guys like Petty or Hack. That's where a guy like Romo comes into play. Romo's career in Dallas is over. There's no way he'll be retained in Dallas now that Dak Prescott has done so well. Dallas has found their QB of the future in Prescott. Romo is now expendable. I saw on the news the other night that one of Romo's likely landing spots will be the Jets.

I swear only the Jets could do something like this? What's the betting line on how quickly he ends up on IR playing behind this shit OL? Or just sprains his vagina as a result of a non contact injury?

    Tony Romo....
I think it makes the most sense,
It allows Petty and Hackenberg to learn more

It fits the Jets modus operadi.

Enough with this approach it hasn't worked for this team it never has it never will meanwhile guys all over the league come in and play with success right away its time to draft em put em in they either have it or they don't if they don't we rinse and repeat until it works !

My guess would be Tony Romo or Jay Cutler because we're the Jets and that's what we do.

Maybe Hackenberg will get his shot in week 10 next season.

Signing Romo would be a huge mistake. As a starter he'll never finish a 16 game season again.

It may be wishful thinking, but I think Petty will start the 2017 season. I was not discouraged by the last game.

Most likely Petty. He just needs to get some experience this year. He can make all the throws and has poise. Please God, no old QB that keeps us from having a young, developing QB. Plus, we are not a win now team. It would make zero sense to bring in a veteran unless it is ONLY to be a backup.

Got to give Petty more than one game. They should let him start the rest of the games this year and see if he improves which I hope he can do. Petty is a good humble dude and I would love to see him take the bull by the horns and kick some ass. I would hate to see the Jets sign Romo but, it would be such a Jet's move to do something like that. Please God no Romo!!!!!!!!!

With this OL we'll need a big and or fast QB who can keep plays alive after protection breaks down.

Hopefully the OL is something that is addressed this off season.

Mac's unwillingness to give Petty and Hack a chance to start? What evidence do you have for that? An article on The Star Ledger today spoke of how Mac has bent over backwards to defer to Bowles with regard to roster decisions. That has been Bowles' decision, not Mac's. Bowles has been trying to win. I think he's wrong and clueless, but he isn't the first HC, and I'm sure he won't be the last, who always gives the benefit of the doubt to veterans. In addition, that's why they kept Geno on the roster (as insurance). Both Petty and Hack were projects. Hack was given a redshirt year this year. He said that he wasn't going to make the same mistake as previous regimes and rush young QBs onto the field before they were ready. Mac further said that Hack wouldn't play this season.

It has zero to do with trust. It has to do with they were trying to be competitive this year while grooming the two young QBs in a pressure-free situation.

Unless Mac decides to draft another QB, he probably will add a veteran to hold the clipboard and possibly start, but I will be shocked beyond words if he signs Romo. If he signs Romo or another jag vet to start and doesn't give either Petty or Hack or a young QB they draft a chance to compete for the starting job, then I'm done with this stupid team, because it will prove that Mac is as worthless and stupid as Bowles. This team needs to be blown up and go with a youth movement. If they try to go with the same BS "win now" next season and don't add and develop young players, this team will never go anywhere.

I disagree. It makes zero sense imo. Trying to "win now" with the JAGs and older vets is a joke. This team needs to be blown up and the Jets need to go with a youth movement. Petty, Hack a QB they draft, or another younger vet that still has some upside should be starting for this team next season.

It think Bryce will be it. His game wasn't some abomination, he made mistakes you make as an inexperienced QB. Brady nearly threw as many INTs as TDs in his second year as a fill in starter. The key from here on out is for our guys to get experience and to get better.

I'm not sure Woody nor its fans are in any mood for a total rebuild.
Been there..done that MANY times over.
I agree the team needs to develop a franchise QB, but it seems no one can get it right.
I've seen too many" saviours" and frankly it's exhausting.
I don't care if the signal caller is old or young, I just want to win a Super Bowl before I die.

See the problem is that franchise QBs are extremely rare, when they do happen, we are never in position to draft one. It's like we always suck but we never suck enough to better this team at the most important position in football.

Then you have the miracle QBs that we never seem to land. Even though we have been drafting a QB once a year since Mac took over, we don't know what we have in Petty or Hack. It would be nice though to be a team that drafted a franchise QB late in the draft like some of these other lucky teams luck Seattle and Dallas.

I mean, if the Cubs can win a World Series, surely we have a legit chance. Look at Cleveland sports, shit is finally going their way after years and years of torture.

Surely, for fuck sakes, we deserve a little happiness with our team too. Ha

There's six games left. If Petty shows promise, there's no reason why he shouldn't be the starter next year. But that might be too optimistic given how things typically go for the Jets.
