They probably will. He's never gotten along with Rodgers and with the team finally plummeting they have justification to fire him. Is Mac smart enough to hire him is the question?
But it's not just that. It's his refusal to make changes at certain positions, specifically QB. It's his awful time management. It's the poor management of his players' mouths. It's the bend, don't break defensive scheme that's breaking really bad. It's the drive killing penalties on offense and drive prolonging penalties on defense. The injuries and schedule run second to that. A good team beats good teams. We can't even beat below average teams despite having much more talent. Bowles is an issue.
I am now convinced that the D will not play for Bowles. Sad to say, because its not a good thing to fire a coach after two years, but the evidence is there Jets need an experienced, offensive-minded coach The coaching staff needs to understand how to groom a QB. Between Hackenberg & Petty, we might have what we need. If you couple him with a great RB ( Leonard Fournette, anyone), you could get a Dallas type result faster than anyone expects, If the right coaches are in place. Defensive talent is there
How many teams dont want to fire their coaches right now? My guess is less than half. I just briefly looked at a few message boards (internal systems are down at the office, I'm not THAT lame). I've seen Panthers, Vikings, Packers, Steelers, Ravens, Bills, Bengals among others. All teams have the same excuses every week that Jets fans have (undisciplined, team not ready, playcalling). I'm beginning to think that there are either no good coaches, or maybe coaching doesnt have the impact we all think it has. Maybe players/schedule/luck have much more of a say than given credit for. I bet the Jets fans wouldnt be nearly as down on Todd Bowles as we are if Fitz hasnt throw 50 interceptions so far.
D played fantastic yesterday ... Kenny Britt was all Revis. Like I said, look at McCarthy, he has the best QB in the league and that offense looks awful, and it looks like isn't commanding any respect. I'll keep Bowles for at least another season or 2
Yes ! Mac was ready to move on, Bowles wanted Fitz back. We all knew last year was a fluke with Fitz. Bowles was NOT a good coach last year, he just didn't have the Flamboyant Rex style. He was out-coached in nearly every game, never made adjustments and repeated his mistakes again and again (and he still repeats his mistakes).
D was "fantastic" against an offensively challenged team, and BTW, the D gave up just enough to permit the game tying and winning FGs , so I'm not impressed. An inspired and well-coached D could've pitched a shut-out yesterday. But I'm splitting hairs. Its the O that needs to be addressed. Also, McCarthy would be a good choice for an offensive minded coach who can develop a QB, but I doubt he'd come here.
They didn't give up many big plays ... 9 total points ... Revis gave up a lot of yards, but definitely good enough to win a game. I guess not giving up big plays all game is the new Jets defense standard then. Had shots to turn the football over, but couldn't convert. I saw a lot of effort out there. I guess fantastic was a bad word choice.
thats fair, no big plays, but they were playing against the 32nd offense in the NFL and they couldn't get them off the field
The Rams were shutout week 1 vs. San Fran and they've been held to 10 points and below now 5 times on the year. They were also in a free fall prior to yesterday. That should've been an easy win
I don't expect anything to happen because this season is over but going into the bye is always a good time to fire somebody.
whoops,I googled too fast there to look at their schedule, it didn't include week 1. Thanks for the correction ... I agree this should've been an easy win with better game-planning on the offensive side of the ball would've gotten the Jets the W. Saw a lot of effort in terms of the defense, which makes me think they didn't exactly lose Bowles in that locker room just yet. Just couldn't finish some of those plays out there. Jets need to practice generating turnovers or something. At this juncture, I don't care if we win another game cause Myles Garrett from Texas A&M would look really good in Jets green.
Stock is low on good offensive lineman right now ... we might have a shot at Watson the QB, but if not Garrett is a pass rushing monster. At this point, gotta take the best talent available. I'll pass on a corner or safety in the first round
