I would argue that the Jets have over achieved this year and are a better team than last year. As I argued in July our realistic ceiling was 5 or 6 wins. Not because we are a bad team but because of the schedule. Losing, even against quality teams, makes a good team bad. I don't think anyone could have realistically expected us to be better than 3 wins at this point. But I do agree there were oppurtunities for wins against the Bengals, Chiefs, Seahawks and Dolphins . We could have 5 wins right now but we don't . I would love to see us move on and play the young players the last 7 games and then invest in the OL in next year's draft. There is a lesson in what Dallas did in building an OL 1st then adding a young QB last.
At best we can be is 8-8 and that's if everything goes our way. 2 losses to patriots and a lost to the Bills.
I could have been a millionaire had I invented the internet and that is about as truthful as this thread is. Hell, if they made many less mistakes, they could be 9-0 right now. That is NOT what happened. They did commit those mistakes, they did play like shit, and their record is 3-6...........
I'm more concerned with how piss poor the team has looked overall than the record itself. So let's say we're 5-4 due to some fluky plays bouncing our way, I don't think my outlook for the rest of the season would be much different than it is currently. This team has issues.
I think the title of this thread speaks to the fact that the Jets are bad this year. There are always gonna be games that you look back on and think you should've won. In the years that we've been decent, the threads are usually "we could be 7-2 right now" when we're actually 5-4. The fact that we're talking about how we "could" have a mediocre record tells me we're bad.
Folk hitting a chip shot field goal/extra point, and the Jets not giving up a kickoff return for a touchdown would not be considered fluky plays bouncing our way. Sitting at 5-4 certainly would have changed our outlook with 5 games at home in the last 7 games with one of the road games being against San Fran.
Things that a bad team does. Heck the jets could be 0-9 also, if the teams they beat would have made less mistakes then the jets, they could have beat us.
Right, and with that said it still would not change the fact that we're a completely mediocre team with a shitload of problems. A 5-4 record doesn't really change that.
We could easily be 2-7 right now also. The talk of 9-7 or 8-8 is hilarious. Where are the wins coming from? Patriots 2 times - very unlikely. Bills -- I think they will be read y for us big time and looking to avenge week 2 embarrassment. Dolphins - just smacked us around, so 50/50 at best. 49ers -- possibly, but the way we play traveling across the country , not likely. So you have today starting a QB with his first NFL start and against the Colts in prime time fighting for a playoff spot. My preseason prediction was 5-11, but I am leaning more now towards 4-12.
I predict you'll feel ashamed with your 4-12 prediction. I'm not predicting playoffs, but you'll be wrong by at least 4 wins. Book it.
Maybe if the Jets didn't have an ambivalent Fat Albert as the HC...He is as inspiring as a John Idzik press conference...
