There's really no option in the Free Agency for us to use as a "stop gap" solution. Brees is injured. Simms is young and will command a huge salary, and Kitna will surely stick with Cincy now that Palmer is injured and will probably be compensated real well because of it. So if we do draft Cutler lose Pennington our best option is Bollinger. Although Josh McCown is a possibility...especially now that Warner resigned in Arizona Here's the list 1 Drew Brees UFA 5 6-0/221 2 Jon Kitna UFA 9 6-2/217 3 Chris Simms RFA 3 6-4/220 4 Josh McCown UFA 4 6-4/213 5 Charlie Batch UFA 8 6-2/220 6 Anthony Wright UFA 7 6-1/211 7 Sage Rosenfels UFA 5 6-4/225 8 Jeff Garcia UFA 7 6-1/195 9 Vinny Testaverde UFA 18 -/- 10 Seneca Wallace UFA 3 5-10/193 11 Dave Ragone RFA 3 6-3/245 12 Craig Nall UFA 4 6-3/228 13 Jamie Martin UFA 8 6-3/193 14 Chris Weinke UFA 5 6-4/232 15 Tim Hasselbeck UFA 4 6-1/211 16 Jeff Blake UFA 14 6-1/233 17 Shaun Hill UFA 4 6-3/226 18 Ken Dorsey RFA 3 6-5/200 19 Ty Detmer UFA 14 6-0/189 20 Todd Collins UFA 10 6-4/219 NR Doug Flutie UFA 13 5-10/180 NR Jesse Palmer UFA 5 6-2/219 NR Shane Matthews UFA 12 6-3/195
Funny, but since we are rebuilding anyway, why not Brooks? At least Cutler/Jacobs or whoever we draft will be safely on the sidelines with the ever present clipboard instead of getting his brains kicked in..
I started thinking the same thing yesterday about Brooks. Why pay any extra money to a free agent QB with all our cap troubles and all the dead money we're going to have tied up in Chad? Brooks is on about the same level as all the other QBs on that list.
Those are good points about the qb situation fellas. I wanted Mccown at the beginning but I say let Brooks start and let our qb of the future learn.
I agree.... But seriously...the team is sooooo screwed. Penny is out. Mawae and Fabini probably gone. 2006 appears to be a nightmare. I say if the plan is to draft Cutler, trade out of this spot and get an extra pick and save money. Down the line, I'm predicting they will regret not picking D-Brick. The line is going to be awful and whomever they put back there is going to get killed.
That is one depressing list. I can only hope that one of those guys comes here only to get us going next season till our rookie is ready and then becomes a back up. I don't mean ANY one of them. Most on the list I would prefer not even be here, ie VT.
I love Brooks, but I feel it would be a bad move to draft a number 1 QB and start Brooks instead. We all know Brooks is young, and has some spunk, and the expectations for next year are REAL low... Okay, now lets say Brooks comes in next year and plays pretty well and we are an ok team. Then everyone is gonna be calling for him to start forever, messing with our whole QB situation for years, and our young QB, who would be way better than Brooks, forever. I say if we pick up a stop-gap guy, its gotta be a real veteran, who knows his role. As for that list... Doug Flutie j/k
I doubt highly brooks would be good enough to bench our rookie stud if he does then I will worry about having 2 starters. More likely he plays good enough to become a lifetime back up which we need badly
Its not as bad as you think guys. The next couple of seasons are going to be difficult but from what Im hearing Im really liking their plan. We just have to be patient.
