Is MoWilk having a post-contract collapse?

After the first game I thought for sure we really had a stud group of Dlinemen, but that game is starting to feel more and more like a fluke. Yes, MoWilk batted down a pass last game. He has made some plays here and there over the course of the season as well. But he is making premium money and, IMHO, not playing anywhere near the level that would justify his pay level as far as I can see.

Admittedly I haven't had the time (or inclination) to rewatch the games and concentrate on his performance, so it is tough to be certain how much is him and how much is the scheme, his linemates, etc. Maybe losing Snacks is a bigger loss than many of us realized in the preseason. I don't know. But I do come away with the feeling that, having gotten his mega contract, is now coasting and collecting pay checks.

Here's the thing: I am a MoWilk fan. I am a fellow Owl, I think he has a world of talent, and I love watching him play. But he already had a reputation for taking some plays off before getting paid. Now that he isn't fighting for a contract any longer he just isn't playing 'hungry' to my eyes. This is a chronic problem in contemporary sports, especially the NFL. Maybe I am wrong. Frankly, I hope I am, which is why I am starting this thread. Do other people see this or is it just me? Maybe it's a combination of things. I don't know but I want to continue to like MoWilk. But if he is gonna coast then I want him and his exorbitant cap figure off of the team ASAP.

i really like Mo too, and advocated his signing as well.

that said, I'm seeing what you're seeing, which doesn't appear to be very inspired football on his part.
very disappointing, like most players on this team..

He better turn it up, as it's really only a 2 yr deal.

Since he's coming off an injury I'm willing to give him time but not much

Cashed in, cashed out. Happens to almost everybody. What's Suh been doing?

Steelers and the Patsies basically pay nobody, that's why they always have hungry players. And mad fans, which is an additional bonus from my POV :)

I don't think he's healthy right now. He isn't practicing today, why would that be the case?

I don't think he's cashed out, he's playing a lot of LE / RE on a 4 man front when he's at his best when he's rushing the passer from the interior. Almost all of his snaps are from an outside rushing position.

"post contract collapse" seems too polite..there are other ways to describe it. Of course the owners would never get away with it, at least not easily but they6 should make all contracts incentive laden. Don't like it go elsewhere..Wilk for example had 12 sacks last year in his contract year, so far in 6 games he has 1.5.

I am surprised about Mo's performance thus far. Pretty sure the FO didn't see this coming either. There was nothing in his makeup that seemingly would cause such a dis-interested player the second he got his big contract.

On a positive note, he's barely ahead of his rookie totals for the season, 3.0 Sks, 35 tckls, 14 assts - so, he's got that going for him.

  10. I believe this is the real Mo...the lack of stats are reflective of the defenses performance as a whole. Mo's a solid 2 way DL..but he's not a game changing force like many now expect after the stats he put up last year. The part that really makes you gasp is the surrounding talent along the DL..and not ONE of these guys can buy a sack or a big play!

we need to switch to a 4-3 and put Sheldon as the RE instead of this linebacker bullshit. It would look like this

    Right End:Sheldon
    Left End:Wilkerson
    DT:Williams
DT:Mclendin or whatever his name is i forgot lol

I think this could improve our pass rush.

You can't run the 4-3 with 300 pound DEs

I've watched him, and I was at the Arizona game so I could single him out. After all his whining and posturing about his contract he should absolutely be ashamed of himself for his play right now

Much better than playing a 300lb DE at MLB.

No - It's down to our defensive scheme.

    Putting the whole 3-4, 4-3 issue to one side for the moment, this is what the opposition OC is thinking;

"Their D-Line is pretty good so we'll just double team the big threat (normally Wilk) and perhaps leave in a back to make chips or clean up elsewhere. Our QB will have to get rid of the ball faster then usual but that shouldn't be a problem as the CBs don't press and the LB's are soft"

Against teams who like to go vertical (Bengals and Bills) we've been effective but teams that can dink it and are happy to take what we give them (classic example being KC) or with a QB that can extend and evade the rush (Wilson) we've been awful.

Add in the fact that all the QB's we've faced outside of the Bills are all 'franchise' QBs who can feel the pressure, identify the match-ups and make plays......it's gonna be a tough day for the D-Line especially when the offense isn't giving them anything to work with.

Of course the owners could go to incentive laden contracts but the players will go to 1 year deals only if that happened. How much would the teams lose in jersey sales if everyone in the league was on a 1 year deal?

What's the typical recovery time on his injury?

I know with Revis I have been disappointed in his performance, especially since it is a hand injury, but others have pointed out that his game could be limited by his recovery. I know from my own wrist surgery years ago that it wasn't the same for about a year (although I didn't have a team of sports doctors working on me either). Admittedly I was under the impression he was healed and back to 100%. Perhaps that was a poor assumption of my part.

What is up with that!? That's just crazy to me. We have four really good DLmen, so play a 4-3, even is the DEs aren't prototypical ends for a 4 DL set. Geez, for once can we just employ our talent in a manner that gives them their best chance to succeed? Is that such a wild idea for this franchise?
