I admit we gain nothing by changing regimes every few years- the best franchises are stable franchises But we also need to have some goddam self respect Stop paying the billionaire money for such a perennial shit product- total dog shit Please don't go to the games. Don't buy jerseys, don't give them any extra money. Let them EARN your money. Sometimes I think fans just like to brag that they have season tickets. As if they are ultimate fans? Puh lease. To me when someone says they are season ticket holders I laugh and make fun of them. If my butcher sold me rotten meat for 30 years I would not shop there. Morons
Come on, you're going to criticize people for buying tickets to something they're passionate about? This has the potential to turn into a philosophical "why even watch sports in the first place?" type of debate. People like the Jets so they go watch the Jets.
I've been preaching since the KC game.... Houston 1994. The fans got so disgusted w. the underachieving, crappy stadium & lack of change from a stubborn owner that they simply stopped attending home games..and the ones who did go spent the whole time booing the team. Oilers were forced to relocate & make sweeping changes Maybe that's harsh...and sad...but this fan base needs to send a message. We're not supporting the false bravado, selfish player shit show any longer. Power to the people. We're fucking sick of the embarrassing losing Woody.
Power to the people I'm not saying we need to move the team, but stop Giving Woody EXTRA cash. We all know he doesn't need your peasant money. He laughs at you losers
Lots of Seahawks fans paid the cash to go out there today because they couldn't get tickets to home games here. Made a weekend out of the trip.
Losing money doesn't bother Woody. Negative press, social media & the "same old jets"perception does. He would rather the team be paper champions so that the stadium is full on Sundays & he can further this false bravado that Jet games are high class high roller events. In other words..the empty seats...lifeless gameday aura...and social bashing are what hurt woody in his heart. Break out the safety scissors and brown grocery bags...
It must be nice to root for a team that actually makes you proud...and who you can go see in a visitor stadium w.o already knowing before kickoff that you're gonna be embarrassed.
I don't see how Woody is to blame, he isn't pinching pennies on the team. Woody did the right thing building the FO, the FO needs to figure out how to fix this. Bowles may not be the answer, but 2 years isn't a lot of time to fix the mess we were...are.
The crowd totally sucked against Seattle, yes we have much larger issues but I didn't know what these to put this in. We need to turn rabid similar to raider fans, have other fans scared to come see a game in our house. We need all the help we can get. It was unacceptable how many Seattle fans were there and to top it off all the Jets fans had no energy, silent just waiting for our boys to make mistakes.
Agreed. I've seen visiting fans at games before but was surprised to see that many Seahawks fans yesterday. Always tough to take when we lose. Visitors? Front-runners? Whatever. Either way, don't blame the Jets fans who were there. Blame the ownership that created this situation with the high costs of season ticket ownership that came with the stadium change. People are desperate to sell their extra tickets, or sell some of their seats to the highest bidder just to be able to afford the games they do choose to attend. Very few can afford to "treat" friends or allow a ticket to go unused these days. I used to have six season tickets. Sometimes 4 or 5 went used. I was never desperate to sell off the extras. We see who is buying them. The Jets "monetized" their fan base. This is the result.
You remember Houston but not The Giants fans burning their tickets in the parking lot? That had at least as much influence on the Maras.
IDK.. you can tell that the organization is trying. Woody put a lot of effort into making sure the GM search was very thorough. Consulted Casserly and Wolf. Spent a ton of money last year. The want-to is there, it just hasn't delivered results. No reason to boycott the team, IMO.
The Maras are real football owners who actually "get it". Yes they have alittle of that capitalist "profit above people" in their blood..but they wanna win football games & if the play starts to slip over a period of time they are MEN about it who attack things head on & usually pull the right string for change. Woody just hides when times are rough & looks for the easiest/cheapest asset he can attain for headlines so we can have more false bravado.
And that was just what they did after that incident. The next year they hired George Young who actually knew something about football, a few years brought in Parcells and drafted Lawrence Taylor and a couple years after that won their first superbowl. The whole thing to go from "The Fumble" to the superbowl was less than 10 years and they still haven't looked back.
I don't remember the exact season....2009ish? The Giants had a putrid season that truthfully set them back quite a ways. the fan base was furious. At the end of the year...the Mara's had a extended face to face conference with the media where they addressed all football questions head on, they acknowledged change was needed, they apologized to the fans..they were humble & took action. The contrast of that? Jets 2011. A miserable season for Jet fans. A classic chokejob right after a bitter labor lockout. Fans were devastated...the season was a shit show. Fans wanted answers. The media wanted answers. What does Woody? Sends out some half ass generic letter to season ticket holders pressed in fancy ink. Not in New York, Mr. Johnson.
I think Woody is to blame for a lot of shit over this years but in this instance/team I'll bring up Fitzpatrick. I believe the football people in this organization knew last season was abnormal for Fitzpatrick and were ready to move on without paying a backup QB $12mill and wanted to see if they could get more out of the younger QBs. Why else would they hold a stand off all season just to give the guy the contract he wanted when they were only bidding against themselves? Fitzpatrick had no leverage. Well actually it turns out he did. He had Woody Johnson telling the football people what to do... AGAIN. ---- You pay big money to Casserly & Wolf to advise you in hiring people to make FOOTBALL decisions for once and when it comes time for those people to make their biggest football decision, you step in and tell them what to do!!!??!?!? Classic Woody Johnson. Look at Denver's owner. Lots of tough decisions made there at the QB position. They trade away Tim Tebow after he's the league's no 1 story possibly in a long, long time. A golden pretty boy who gets you to the divisional round of the playoffs and makes you BOATLOADS of money but the football minds tell the owner he's no good and they need an upgrade. Denver's owner trusted those people. Do you think Woody Johnson would do that? FUCK no. Tebow would've gotten a contract extension. And its the same thing again in Denver. One QB retires and his successor is on his way out for a mega deal. The football people tell the owner we'll be okay with this 7th rounder named Trevor Siemian or Mark Sanchez or a rookie, lets not break the team up just to sign Osweiler. The owner trusted the football minds. Johnson would've ordered they trade/cut a bunch of guys to make Osweiler's contract work. I mean he couldn't even handle playing hardball with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Johnson is a loser and I hope he sells the team
This may be this franchise's only hope. Woody may not meddle a lot, but when he does, its usually catastrophic. He should have let Mac hire his own HC but nooooooo, Woody decides to do it his way and hire his HC as if his judgement in football coaches is second to none. The result? Another HC that is learning on the job while yet another season goes down the drain. Its starting to look like both Parcells and Belichek knew exactly what they were doing when they chose to bail out.
