Well, we have seen all of this before...about 45 years or so. This game should have been won...field goals...field goals...field goals. This conservative play stuff has to change...I don't think I have another 46 years to wait.
When we kicked a FG on 4th and inches to go up by 2 I knew we were gonna lose. I said it when it happened, it was a pussy move.
Bowles needs to grow a set, but 24 and 4 doomed us today. On the bright side our OL and RB's looked great. Enunwa needs to be our TE. Kellen Davis is a waste of a roster spot. AND we get Potsy back this week!!!!!
Well, we all better get used to it until this guy gets fired sometime in the next 3 years if his teams regress. He is who he is and isn't going to change. This the thing I hate about conservative coaches.
i despise revis, but hard to blame he when he was put in position to fail. not just him, williams as well
I'm not all over Bowles just yet. It's just hard. We know the schedule is brutal you can't give up a game like that
I'm beginning to see a lot of Herman Edwards in Bowles. I believe that if you coach safe in the NFL, unless your team has superior talent, you can end up an also ran. I sense a lot of concern about what the papers are going to say Monday morning instead of taking a chance on playing aggressively. Did you see Oakland go for two and the win? A lot of criticism if they lost, but they risked it and won. I believe that's what it takes.
I cannot believe he had Revis in man coverage on AJ Green most of this game,,,the only wrk you need worry about and you make it easy for him, just amazing ! The thing that really bothers me about kicking that FG instead of going for it is any good coach would have been ready had we not made it on 3rd down and and I'm no coach but I said to my son line up quickly and try and draw them offsides with a hard count,,,,,at least after that he could have gone for the kick which I was against I wanted to go for it, just too much time left at that point to give the ball back to the Bengals with a Fg being the difference
I know your mad, and I have been reading the boards reaction to the loss, and while I don't agree with everything guys are posting, this post is spot on. This is the problem with the young coaches in the NFL, they try to reinvent the wheel. The Jets have an excellent front 4, the whole purpose of that is too keep as many guys back as possible, in particular the safeties. Please forgive me guys, but this is why Bill Belichick will continue to be a superior HC in this league. He keeps his safeties back and gives support to his corners to never give up the big play, and it allows the corners to jam the receivers. It's not rocket science, TB has a reputation and instead of adjusting to the players he has, he is trying to live up to that reputation. However I don't feel he cost the jets today, it came down to special teams, Fitz making bad reads in the red zone and some questionable play calling by Gailey. They left 4 points on the table that the jets needed in order to win a close game against a playoff team.
Until we get that ubertalented, take charge QB that can mask the occasional coaching brainfart, poor OL play, and defensive mishaps we will see games like this far too often...... Unfortunately those QB's come along once in a generatÃon, unless your the colts of course. LOL
Actually i think QE may end up spelling marshall if he continues to improve his play. Apparently the receiving TE is not utilized too much in this offense which can be masked with 4-5 WR set formations and throwing to the backs. Yes the OL,was good. Hopefully those younger guys remain healthy and get better.
Don't say special teams say the kicker that's who sucked. The rest of our special teams play was outstanding today.
I don't dislike Bowles but he coached a poor game today. Blame it on the coordinators if you want but ultimately the calls to get too conservative on offense and shitty defensive philosophy like the prevent bullshit go through him. I said on a different board that I wasn't concerned with the shaky first half because Bowles showed to be pretty good at half time adjustments last year but those seemed nonexistent today too. The loss isn't on him. Folk and the secondary are more at fault but it wasn't his best moment and certainly a bit concerning for a coach going into his second year that you want to see improvement from.
