He stepped big during the shitstorm that was Rex's last season here.i gotta wonder if he's back to himself after that Achilles injury . Weird how we couldn't retain him as a free agent but now we got him off waivers. I hope he's still good .
I'm happy to have AA back. However, we already have 2 other box safeties. Do they actually see Allen as a FS? If no, might make more sense to keep Martin on the 53.. We need a guy capable of playing the deep field.
Ok, good pick up for now but I expect him to be a 4-5 week fill in until a real FS pops up. We need someone with some range.
Agree this was a good move. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's starting by mid-season. I always thought he had star potential with his big play ability (and more importantly, knack for making those plays)
hopefully Rontez Miles doesn't get the axe. he's our best special teams coverage ace.....would keep him for that alone. but Miles, Allen and Pryor all play the same position from what i can tell.. maybe Bowles is thinking 4 DL, 1 ILB, 3 S, and 3 CB on some Dime packages. essentially another S acting as an ILB on Dime. could be interesting. I'm dying to know what Bowles was envisioning with this move if it is indeed more than just a simple Miles replacement. What do you guys think? Free Safety, Miles replacement as a box S, hybrid role in subpackages, Patriots package to handle 2 good pass catching TE's?
I think this is an underrated signing.AA may not be a starter as many others have pointed out but he can be a gadget player filling situational roles. He also can play both safety spots, has experience starting & is good on special teams. He's well known in the locker room & well liked by the fan base. There's really no downside to this move. Just another weapon at Bowles disposal on D.
I would love to see a specific package with Pryor, Lee, AA to go up against a 2 te set close to the RZ. Take out the seams completely. We shouldn't cut any of the safeties. Miles has an excellent nose for the football.
Really smart move by Mac. AA will contribute on special teams. While not an every down DB, he can do multiple things I see Bowles utilizing him in different spots in the nickel and dime defenses.
