He could (should) have drafted one and/or traded or signed someone with any kind of talent That's how he botched it.....Even with Amaro I wanted a second TE with some kind of skill as the number 2 (or 1 if Amaro wasn't good enough which apparently he wasn't) Amaro just seems immature....I would have given him a few more chances, it's not like we replaced him with anything better even with all of his faults Kellen Davis is complete garbage.....offers zero threat and basically cost us the game against Buffalo #1 last season He's a decent blocker but that's it....shouldn't be on a roster to be honest As for your list of free agents.....I would have drafted someone if possible but Jared Cook or even Vernon Davis would have been a big upgrade on the cheap. I like Macc overall but he's not 100% great...he makes mistakes and this is one of them
Did you see the TEs that were in the draft? Based on what I read, it was a bad year for TEs, so even if he had drafted one, chances are he would have contributed nothing this year, if ever. Traded for one? That requires giving up talent or draft picks. It also takes another team willing to trade one of their quality TEs. Amaro may just be immature, but I think it goes much deeper than that. I think he doesn't love the game, and doesn't have a passion to succeed and excel. I think he's one of those guys who plays because of the money, and maybe the fame of being an NFL player. He's also soft. I don't think he will ever amount to anything in football. I rooted for him as long as he was here, but never wanted him, am glad he's gone, and I think they were spot on in getting rid of him. I was disappointed that the TE position wasn't upgraded, but I think it's premature and silly to say it's a mistake. You ignored the fact that he couldn't address every position. Cook was expensive and drops a lot of passes. Based on what I heard, Davis is done. I trust Mac's judgment more than I do mine, yours or anyone else's. We also don't know whether he did try to sign a TE or trade for one and was rebuffed. Yes, Mac is human, not perfect, and makes mistakes. In time, we may discover that he had an opportunity to upgrade the position and didn't, and if so, then we'll know that it was a mistake. I'll join you at that point in saying that it was a mistake. Until then, imo it's premature to suggest otherwise, just like it's premature to say that Hack is a bust. We don't know what went on behind the scenes, how players played in practice, and/or what moves Mac tried to make. Having a good TE would be nice, but it's not going to seriously hurt the offense. With excellent receivers in Brandon Marshall, Decker, Forte, Powell, and possibly Enunwa, Anderson, Peake and Jalin Marshall, TE is more of a luxury at this point. Thus I can't see it as a mistake or "botched." We'll just have to agree to disagree on this issue.
It's just a chart. If Clady were to get hurt, I'm sure Ijalana would move to LT and Qvale would take RT.
Shell will do well as an extra blocker on the goal line. He defiantly will never play LT in his entire NFL career. "We have Art Shells relative" mental warefare, opponents will be expecting a beast when they see that name on paper. Out rolls Qvale and my quaaludes if that ever happens.
Surprising how Jenkins was quietly found himself starting as a 3rd round rookie. Lots of question marks at lb but I'm optimistic that the young guys will be ready and show us something he have seen in many years at lb. Just gotta pray this o line holds up
I dont think that would be wise. Burris got beat a lot in the preseason. You put him across from Revis and smart starting QBs are going to pick on him all day .He's not ready for the big time yet. His ball skills are lacking. He can hang with a receiver but when the ball gets there he loses it. He should stay on the bench unless its 3rd and teens and he's brought in for prevent with safety help. Plus like you say, he will draw penalties with his physical play.
how about when we throw out Marsh & Deck and they throw out................... ? what does this even mean lol? our offenses aren't going head to head they'll be seeing our defense, i dont get the "advantage" part.. (Enunwa cooked them from the TE position badly last year.. with the same play lol)
Maccagnan has had swings and misses but if that's your biggest beef that he can't find a decent player to play one of the least important positions on the field then shoot you should be pretty happy. I am more concerned that he has just put together a patchwork O-line since he got here, that he had an offseason long standoff with a journeyman QB just to give him the contract the QB wanted anyway, and that he has been more successful with veteran acquisitions than young players.
I like Macc and our roster overall....I just don't understand how Kellen Davis is starting for us 2 seasons in a row You cannot tell me someone better out there couldn't have been added for low resources We'll be fine but a good TE would be real nice
No shit man....We need every positional advantage possible that we can control....When they have Brady it's a must
Bingo. I like what he's done, but the anointing has to stop. He hasn't proven anything more than Tannenbaum at the time he was given the reigns, in that they both built short-term winners. This team is built based on veterans. What happens when Mangold, Marshall, Decker, Harris, Revis, Clady, are too old to produce (and it's not that far away)? Harris is the only player that has a legitimate heir apparent.
Agreed. OL injuries can ruin the season. I hope Mack is looking at backfill guys. Is the Pats guy just released Josh Kline any good?
I mean i feel what ya saying... i just feel we actually have that advantage at pretty much every position besides QB & TE.. im sure they have a better right guard and tackle ... can't tell by the way our d-line dogs them though.
Two issues concern me: 1) Only three safeties on the roster, 2 ) It's a bit disconcerting that a journeyman LB is starting over the 1st round draft choice. How did that happen?
