I'll say one thing about hackenberg he throws a much nice ball than the first overall pick Goff. Matter of fact goff is dog shit altogether
I thought hack looked better than expected. I didn't see any reason not to maintain cautious optimism
Hackenberg showed command of the offense and looked comfortable under center. He had some throws where he looked outstanding and other throws where he looked like he should be bagging groceries for a living. In other words, he played like Christian Hackenberg out there haha
I didn't like the play calls in that series at all. Petty moves the ball well down the field, making several nice throws. then when they are in the redzone they call two inside running plays and a FB screen. Petty made a bad throw there that was tipped and was a bit fluky, but that playcall was bad. Petty seems like a rhythm passer, and that series busted his rhythm.
LOL, that is too funny. I'd like to see the expressions on all prospective GM's and coaches faces with that pronouncement. You're not going to find too many candidates to hire if you are an owner.
Excellent analogy. The one incomplete on that drive was that dump off, he doesn't have that finesse part yet to give his RB time to get that pass, too much mustard on that throw. But you can see he has some chemistry with Anderson who I hope can be his Allen Robinson for Hack.
I get the comparison. Very similar ball down the field. Both need a clean pocket but for different reasons.KOB had a slow release & also had a tendency to hold the ball too long.Hack has a rocket quick release but needs space to step into his throws w/ his power step. KOB had better ball placement especially short.Hack is 25 Lbs bigger & has much better pocket presence.
By the way, I have never seen a smile and grin so big on Todd Bowles then the moment Hack threw that smooth TD to Anderson.
He doesn't really do any of his jobs very well. Gets tough yards - nope Run Blocking - sometimes Catches passes - sometimes
There is no excusing Hackenberg's interception as he shouldn't have thrown the ball, but in a real game they probably don't even run that play. 3rd and 7 from inside your own 10 with a lead and 2:40 to play... that's probably a running play or a safe screen, not a slant across the middle. It doesn't make his performance any better, I've said he had ups and downs and looked like he did at Penn State, I'm just saying...
It was almost like there was 2 QBs out there. First drive was the Hackenberg we saw from Penn State Freshman yr, going through reads, making the right ones and displaying great arm strength under center and shotgun. Those other drives, it looked as if he reverted back to old habits. The ghost of the penn state offensive line may still haunt him. Hopefully we see some improvement when the Jets play Philly.
He threw an INT that I wouldn't necessarily fault a vet for. D-Linemen popping out have fooled many QBs young and old; it's a learning experience. The biggest problem I had with the INT is where it happened on the field. BTW it wasn't a slant; it was more like a back side crossing route. More importantly, it was his third read which he got to quickly after recognizing his first 2 were not there. Perhaps, he was a little too quick as he missed the d-lineman dropping, but I like, excuse me, I LOVE the fact that he displayed in a couple plays the ability to efficiently go though his progressions. I'm still waiting for Geno and Petty to show the same.
