IMO it's too soon to push the panic button on Amaro.. yes he had a bad drop but he was running crisp routes and getting open on multiple occasions, which is an encouraging sign. He also has two solid blocks on running plays that I noticed. Anybody suggesting we cut him is completely insane - he'd be signed by another team before his bags were packed. His size and speed are invaluable at the position in today's NFL.
nope no injury history.. just been on our practice squad. (last year) I didn't know he's been banged up this year. sucks to hear.
Devil's advocate... Enunwa has had big time drops but we all see the upside and many of his advocates refuse to mention the drops. Amaro has been injured but has upside also... enough to keep him right there until someone else earns the spot which in all honesty means someone serviceable with better hands. This position is not the most crucial to the offense but a TE with hands keeps the defense honest and would be a perfect safety valve. It shouldn't take much but the fact that people right now would trade him for Kyle Brady right now says alot.
To be fair, it wasn't just Amaro dropping passes last game. The WRs were dropping passes all over the place. It figures, because it was right as all the beat writers were praising the Jets young WRs for having good practices. I'm not closing the door on Jace just yet.
So Amaro has a decent rookie year, misses an entire year due to injury and has a couple of drops in preseason games and you want to cut the cord? You guys are brutal.
He has a bunch of drops his rookie year too. The guy has Anthony Becht hands without his blocking ability. This doesn't just go back to the last preseason game. He has been and disappointment since he got here. Like most of Idziks draft picks.
I'm usually very patient with drafted players coming into the pros and hoping they will pan out...but when you see consistently bad play and ongoing injuries, it just about wears my tolerance to a point where you say enough is enough. And even if Amaro has a good game against the Giants, will his tendency to flub easy passes end at that point? I doubt it.
I think Amaro has the potential to be a decent NFL receiving TE. I don't think he will ever be a fit in Gailey's offense.
Every day, I move a little farther into the camp that says cut all out TEs and our pretend FB. Sign more O-linemen to fill those slots. Either put Dozier out there at FB and Ijalana out there at TE to block, or put Robinson at FB and Enunwa at TE to catch. If you want to keep the defense guessing, put Dozier and Enunwa out there, or Robinson and Ijalana. Of course I want guys out there who can do both, but I'd rather have a guy who can actually block or a guy who can actually catch than these bozos we have now who can do neither.
Better yet, don't sign more linemen-- just keep 4 QBs and hold on to our young WR talent that we don't look to have space for at present.
I'm still on the fence with Amaro.......I've seen the drops too, but how can someone hold the NCAA FBS records for single season tight end receiving yards and receptions "NOT be able to catch" ........ as some here have stated on boards?
Where tf was he tonight? Didn't see hide nor hair of him. WTF? Gonna be really disappointed if we can't do better than Davis and Sudfeld this year....
It's absolutely bewildering that we can't just find a big ol' hog that can block and catch the occasional flat pass on a play-action. Think Bear Pascoe formally of the Giants, or Craig Stevens for the Titans. It's fucking ridiculous. Makes me miss Anthony Becht a ton. Might as well convert an undersized athletic tackle or guard at this point and roll with six offensive lineman on every play.
He was injured for a while and then had butter fingers when he came back. He was great in the beginning but tailed off.
