we still have the same QB that can't utilize a player like Devin Smith... some of those young guys should get a start or some rotation with the starters to see how fitz does with them.
Exactly. Love the Peake selection. He played behind superstars his whole college career but he can ball.
From the little I saw, Anderson will get claimed off practice squad. He had best catch of nite...though he was out of end zone. Eye opening catch.!!!
Nice catch would've been outstanding if landed two feet down would've also put Petty at 4/4 with 1 TD too. In college was also a return specialist.
Peake was impressive. That TD grab was nfl quality in every respect. Another big bodied wide range wr for fitz to throw to, gotta love it. Like everyone has been saying we should see Enunwa step it up this year and he definitely did. Back to back plays finding the soft spot in the zone in the middle, hope this is just the beginning of him turning up the heat. J Marshall had a few drops that I would like to see him make but I will cut him slack for his first fake nfl game. Watching him on the KR, he held his head up and found the seem perfectly while dodging the one guy he had to without losing much speed. If anything I can see him being our return guy with a few snaps on O each week. The reality is though we have to keep Thompkins. You do not want to go into an nfl season with a majority of young inexperienced wr's in case one of the two starters go down with an injury. I would be fine keeping 7 wrs on the roster once Smith comes back. The amount of 5 wide sets we use requires a large amount of wr's, I can see the depth looking like this in the end. BMarsh Decker Enunwa Thompkins Smith (PUP) Peake Jmarshall Anderson (PS) Ross (PS)
If it were me this is what it looks like (as of 8/12): Marshall Decker Enunwa D. Smith J. Marshall Peake Atho, Thompkins could steal the last spot. But if Peake shows he has upside, I think he's the guy to roster.
I am really rooting for Jalin Marshall, he has some Steve Smith [Carolina] in his game. That was the first player that popped in my mind when watching him play.
Ross can't go on the practice squad. He's played in too many games in his career. It's active roster or nothing for him here with the Jets
Ross, i believe, is a vested veteran and as such will have his whole yearly salary guaranteed if he is on a 53 man roster come opening day. No chance that happens
Early predictions for me are B Marshall Decker Enunwa Smith (Could possibly start season on short term IR) J Marshall Peake Jalins ability to play ST (not just as a returner) are going to help him and make it viable for the Jets to carry an extra receiver on their roster. Thompkins and Ross are going to get cut IMO.
Good point. I think they'll start the season with the 3 rookies on the roster with Thompkins and Ross getting cut then resigned after week 1.
Good post except I think we can due w/o the well traveled Thompkins. Enunwa is expereinced enough and we've got Forte, Powell, and Amaro who will see action in the passing game as well as the rookies.
This is the best group of young WRs I have seen the Jets have in training camp in a long time. Which is nice balance for the vets Marshall and Decker. Enuwa is guaranteed. The guy is a rare talent with a lot of potential. His blocking makes the TE position even more irrelevent than this OC makes it. D Smith stays at least this year to show if he has anything. J Marshall looks like a player. Peake has potential. Ross looks like a good returner but I wonder why he has been cut so often and J Marshall looks like he can handle the return duties nicely. Anderson looks fast but he will not make it. B Marshall, Decker, Enunwa, D. Smith, J. Marshall and Peake make it.
Very true. What a turnaround from two years back. One of the great Jets personnel turnarounds that I can recall. I'd go so far as to say these guys have the potential to top the league. Brandon Marshall is looking like one of the all-time great pick-up decisions. He's elevated the entire offense and certainly earned Fitzpatrick a few more million. Enunwa is making a name for himself. I like the new guys. We've even been able to overcome the disappointment of Devin Smith. I think we have so much quality that there will be someone cut that we'll regret later - but it can't be avoided. Thank God our hopes are no longer pinned to the likes of Chansi Stuckey, Stephen Hill Jeremy Kerley, (and fill in your own name here)
This is why tanking doesn't work in football. Without Fitz, BMarsh, and Decker, there's no way the young WRs get this good.
Once Devin returns off the PUP and if Quincy continues to develop and emerges into another explosive weapon, then I feel and believe Enunwa deserves to be ahead of Smith on the depth chart. When the dust settles i believe these 6 WR's are the real keepers throughout the season (in order). Brandon Marshall. Eric Decker. Quincy Enunwa. Devin Smith. Charone Peake. Jalin Marshall. Peake out of Clemson has true #1 WR potential on the outside having great size & length with real deep ball ability, which is why I'll put him ahead of Jalin. But Jalin isn't going anywhere and should become our future kick & punt returner from day one. Can also develop into out next true slot receiver. Santana Moss he reminds me of. Thompkins & Ross have to be the odd men out. Both 28 years of age and in another 2-3 years they'll both be over 30. Once the likes of Marshall & Decker continue to age if the plan is to surround one of Petty or Hackenberg with polished youth at WR then you keep Peake & Jalin over Ross & Thompkins with no hesitation. Once Peake & Jalin are fully developed we could then have a great wave at receiver once the Brandon/Decker era comes to a close. WR#1: Charone Peake. WR#2: Quincy Enunwa. Slot: Jalin Marshall. Could become a strong future trio of home-grown talent allowing us to tackle other areas. Throw in another 1st round WR/2nd round HB or 1st round RB/2nd round WR come next year's draft and our offense suddenly has a shit load of young talent. It's just a blessing for our future having veteran leaders in Marshall & Decker as role model professionals for the likes of Enunwa, Peake, Jalin and even Amaro.
Yes absolutely the Jets WRs Corp for years to come should consist of a 6th rounder, 7th rounder, and an UDFA.
i think none. simple economics. they can release him in the last cuts and pick him up back up after week 1 if they feel they need him and pay him week to week without being on the hook for the whole year. i can see them doing that and then waiving peake and trying to slip him on to the p.s. after week 2 when most teams have their rosters pretty set up.
