    (8/11/2016 Jaguars @ Jets)

    - The rookie WR battle is heating up with Peake and J. Marshall both looking good

    - Quincy is still elevating his game it seems

    - Not much to take away from the 1's except they seem to be knocking the rust off. Powell looked fresh

    - Mauldin looked flat and couldn't quite finish (a bit disappointed)

    - Geno looked like Geno. Unintelligent play with bits of flashes sprinkled in

    - Miles made some plays(that KR block tho), seems to have good instincts but was out of place a few times

    - IMO I liked what I seen from Dee. Showed quickness and ability to recover, just took the bait a few times. Will being keeping a close eye on him in preseason.

    - The 2nd and 3rd team OL didn't completely implode. That's a positive. Maybe we can find some bodies for the right side.

    - Petty seems to have made progress. Still a raw player but his awareness has improved even though he missed a few throws he didn't make any huge mistakes either. #2 QB?..

    - BIG takeway for me is the improved PR. If Marshall can hang onto those death traps Geno keeps throwing over the middle we may have found our guy...

    - Lee was out there flying around looking good even if he is a 2nd teamer... lol
Bowles with the mind games, got to love it!

    Good write up

Petty and Geno are similar players to me....Both raw talent with big arms that seem to play much better when they're throwing down field. Both good athletes and can make plays outside the pocket but can struggle with nuances of the game and touch throws.

Geno probably needs to be on the team as the backup for this season but I want Petty to stay for the future too

I also thought Ross looked good returning the ball and as a receiver...he probably won't make it because of Jalin Marshall but he probably belongs in the league

Both rookie's we've been talking up in Jalin Marshall & Charone Peake showed us ability tonight, with Jalin putting up an electrifying 84 yard kick return during his 1st & only KR while Peake performed as a WR catching all four targets for 4 receptions, 45 receiving yards along with a beautiful back-shoulder TD reception while getting both feet down inside the end zone.

Our 1st pick in Darron Lee was nice. Flying around the ball with 4 tackles (3 being solo), 1 sack along with a game high 2 tackles for losses behind the L.O.S. Couldn't have asked for a smoother transition from college to the pro's during Lee's 1st preseason contest. This kid will become a stand out player due to his speed, agility, athletism and coverage ability.

Geno Smith started off sluggish but turned it around going 8/14, 79 yards, 1 TD/0 INT's, 0 sacks and finished with a QB Rating of 97.0.

Quincy Enunwa really looked sharp with Fitzpatrick making back to back catches deep over the middle with 1 catch for 43 yards and the other for 26 yards.

What stood out to me most was how mentally focused and disciplined this team was under Bowles. While Jacksonville accumulated 12 penalties for 132 yards our Jets only had 2 penalties for 20 yards. That's a good sign.

Also our punter in Edwards looks to be the truth. 42.2 average, a long of 50 yards along with two inside the 20 and more impressive was his hang time allowing our gunners the time needed in order to get down field.

In closing it may not show up on the box score but Amaro looked really good. Beat his defender twice to get wide open but unfortunately Geno/Petty failed to deliver strikes but nonetheless Amaro looks ready.

Just getting home a little while ago, once the sun went down the temperature was somewhat bearable.
    Few takeaways:
    - Awesome competition between J Ross and J Marshall which really speaks to the team, More depth, more competition, bringing out the best..
    - Peake also very much in the mix with a circus touchdown grab.
    - Lee was strong against 2nd and 3rd team which is what you want to see, you like in his first taste of action he shows up to play, regardless of talent across the ball
    - Very few to No penalties, nothing boneheaded that I can remember at least from first 3 Q's
    Not so good:
    - Geno's inconsistency is maddening (tell me if youve heard that before). To look so boneheaded for a few plays only to come back with a damn good throw to Peake, kind of a culmination of his career thus far
    - Ross Martin, Bowles said he needed to be perfect to unseat Folk, after tonight I wouldnt be surprised if hes gone this week.
    - Few occasions where I blatantly noticed how scared Dion Bailey is/was at filling the hole. Given his special teams versatility and promising camp thus far, Doug Middleton as of now seems wise to keep over Bailey.

Not too concerned about the tackling, first PS game is always a bit sloppy.

Overall good game to watch for most of the team. One thing that stuck out to me is Amaro's lack of athleticism. He seems stiff, with no leaping ability and he's very robotic when trying to attack the ball. He does run solid routes, and displays solid hands, but man the thoughts of him turning into a Jimmy Graham type of player are completely out the window. He could still be a contributor, but I don't think he'll ever be the dynamic player we hoped he'd be.

On a positive note, this team seems to be full of weapons. I'd be in favor in getting rid of Thompkins already and rolling into the season with Marshall, Decker, Enunwa, Peake, Marshall, and Ross with Smith on the PUP. It could be wishful thinking, but the combination of J. Marshall & Peake going forward as possible #2 & #3 or even #3 and #4 receivers is exciting. It could allow us to focus almost solely on the offensive line in the upcoming drafts, which will need a complete overhaul soon enough.

Petty looked solid, albeit against bottom of the barrel defensive players. It'd be a relief to be confident enough to go into the season with him as the #2, although I doubt he'll impress enough for the coaching staff to do that. I understand that they are basically redshirting Hackenberg, but I hope he gets some run in the preseason. I don't know if they're trying to protect his confidence or something, but he should get some live action so he can work on things that he needs to get better at and get that live action on tape.

So Edwards is the guy at punts for us ? I thought we had 2 very promising rookies. What happened to the other guy ?

Didn't get to watch the game yet but what I've heard sounds promising accept for Dee milliner... I still have this crazy idea that we might get something or at least anything from a 10th round pick. Maybe I'm being too hard on the guy but all the articles have trashed him pretty hard .If he can't have a good game in the next 3 weeks his ass will def be sitting on the IR for some other team this season .(probably buffoonlo)

    Random takeaways:
    - was great to see the white on white uniforms again.
    - Bowles might need to ease up on the Oreo's.
    - Bortles and Robinson are really becoming good players for Jax.

    Specials:
    -
the game was won on specials.
    - Edwards punts the shit out of the ball. love it. we have our Punter.
    - J Marshall moves really fluidly. not a burner, but so smooth and athletic, i don't think it will matter. good Punt returner candidate. Needs a number in the teens though.
    - Ross looked good on his one big kick return. also a better receiver than i thought. Was playing split wide (X).
    - Martin will be cut after those 2 missed FG's

    Offense:
    - Petty has a canon and is a real thickly built kid. just hasn't put it all together yet. there was progress though, hopefully he keeps improving.
    - our WR's are very deep and talented. nice TD by Peake, Enunwa improving.
    - Shell played 3rd string LT, but wasn't with the 2's. Harrison i didn't see on the field at all. definitely wasn't with the 2's. Is he hurt?
    - Davis is still starting at TE. Amaro just doesn't impress me from a blocking, route running, or athleticism standpoint. having dropped weight, he at least looks a little quicker tho. Sudfeld blocks as bad as Amaro.

    Defense:
    -
D played well in red zone, but was really getting gashed early, especially in the secondary. kept in vanilla, mainly 3-4 base D.
    - Lee's speed is evident. He was in the backfield a lot, but unfortunately wasn't stout at the point of attack, and didn't wrap up and finish the tackle. The rushing TD went right over him, as did another short ydg attempt. Might need a little time to learn how to finish plays.
    - Jenkins looked solid. LB depth is very good, both inside and outside.
    - dark horse candidates to watch, UDFA's Middleton (FS), Thomas (DL), and 4yr vet journeyman Josh Martin (OLB). all played well.
    - Simon didn't look too good at the nose. Short was terrible at corner....huge missed tackle.
    - Burris is a big CB with potential. will be keeping an eye on his progress.

Thank you everybody for the well thought out opinions. I won't get to watch the game until tomorrow so I'm excited.

But OP what do you mean by our PR? Punt returner?

To me, the wr race will end up with a depressing cut. We know Marshall, Decker, Devin, and Quincy are locks. That's 4 spots. After that there's Thompkins, (was he inactive?) Marshall 2, Peake, and Ross.

2 of those guys who will look good will probably be gone. Thoughts?

It's gonna be a tuff call, do we carry 4 QB'S or lose one our young talented WR'S.

Hopefully a QB will stand out enough in ps, to help make that decision.

I don't know how anyone can say anything positive about Milliner's play, the kid is GOD awful and I'm so done with him.

There was that one D-lineman that always seemed to be around the ball but I can't remember his name.
    He almost sacked Henne.

Shelby Harris#75 the exRaider defense lineman. I was surprised he was in there that early. ( Lee got his sack because of Shelby Harris work) Seems like best suited to be situational pass rusher only.( would need to show consistent pass rushing in the next three preseason games.( if wants any chance to make 53 man roster.

Everyone harping on Milliner's bad play needs to remember that Robinson is one of the best WRs in the league, and 2 this is his first game time action since forever. Let the kid knock the rust off.

I saw him in the right place but sometimes the offense makes a play, like the backshoulder to Robinson, that revis couldn't even defend.

Clean game. No one got hurt. Back up O-Line was decent. Kicking contest is over.

Jeremy Ross is a nice player. Going to be hard to cut him.

This. People are overreacting. Milliner was in the right position most of the time, not getting burned by any means.

The first reception he gave up he was in perfect position but couldn't do anything about the back shoulder pass. Same would've happened and has happened plenty of times to the best at the position.

The second completion he could've played a little better, but he recovered nicely and still was in the right position and gave enough effort where a majority of the time that ball would have come loose. Just good WR play.

CONN-JET we waived Tom Hackett to make room for Bernard Pierce. I think with the up and coming talent Thompkins will be the odd man out as he doesn't play on ST

Can we please stop putting Devin Smith on the roster ... he's gonna start the season on PUP meaning we will have 6 full spots to fill at WR
    B,M.
    E,D.
    Enunwa.
    Ross.
    Marshall.
    Peake.

Sheldon will miss week 1 so that will give us another spot on Defense. I was pleasantly surprised with how all over the field Middleton was. as was Shelby Harris #75.
Although it was against 3rd team'rs Julian Stanford was making plays all night ... yes as mentioned above Kevin Short and our backup kicker are gone.

Jordan Jenkins is the real deal !!

I thought our OL play in the 4th was terrible the 1st and 2nd stringers are good but the back end is awful.

Milliner was beat he wasn't burned by a top end WR so I'll hold off on him, as well as Amaro.

Anderson and Worthy played well but with our depth they have no shot at making the final 53

We didn't burn timeouts ... 2 penalties ... NO turnovers ... great ST play all around (minus the kicker) who will be cut by tomorrow lol
