I'm most concerned about the lack of depth at RB and OL. I think the front office has done a real nice job compiling talent at the other positions but I have my reservations at these spots, esp RB. I mean why happens if Powell gets hurt in practice or preseason? How bad is Fortes injury? Robinson is injured. Pierce is injured and suspended. Jets haven't drafted in RB in the premium rounds since Greene. I was really surprised they didn't grab one this year with so much talent in the draft.
Who's currently slated for punt returns? This is what I'll be keeping my eye on. This D should be much improved so field position will be key, especially will the first 6 games.
Dexter McDougle even in the conversation...really? Biggest waste of a third round pick ever and a big reason John Idzik will never MAKE another pick for the jets or anyone else.
I'll disagree. There's a difference between being absolute trash at your position and being snake bitten by football injuries. McDougle's case unfortunately he's been prone but how can you just write this kid off as nothing but a gigantic bust? According to reporters he's been competing as a CB on a higher level than that of Marcus Williams. Apparently our coaching staff led by Bowles doesn't consider him as the biggest 3rd Round bust of all time either. Or else I'm sure he wouldn't be earning camp reps alongside both Williams and Milliner. And surly McDougle wasn't the reason why Idzik is no longer here. That's outrageous; never heard that one before a first.
I did not say McDougle was the ONLY reason Idzik got canned, I said he was a big reason. NFL.com had McDougle rated as a probable Mr. Irrelevant or possibly undrafted. With the jets turn to pick in the 3rd round that year I wanted them to pick mauling OL Gabe Jackson (actually I wanted the jets to pick Jackson in the 2nd round). Jackson was rated by NFL.com as the 30th best PLAYER in the whole draft. Idzik stupidly reached for McDougle because Terry the idiot Bradway bragged that McDougle was "the smartest CB in the draft"--worth a whole lot, right? Oakland took Jackson with the very next pick and he has been a rock in Oakland. McDougle hardly played his senior year of college due to injury--was on IR all of 2014 for the jets--last I heard he was nursing another injury at camp this year-- are you surprised he is always hurt in then pros? McDougle was the gunner on the punt team that gave up the punt return TD to the eagles last year--McDougle for some reason ran right past the punt returner without touching him--watch the replay if you don't believe me. Idziks 3rd and 4th round selections (4 picks) in 2014 are most often mentioned as a big reason for his firing-- McDuck in round 3 , WR Saunders and Evans and OL Dozier in round 4. I guess I must have missed the pro bowl appearances by any of those players.
Really want to see the O-Line and how Clady looks along with the back ups. Linebackers too. Got to see how improved that unit looks with some speed.
O-Line. I want to see Clady get through the preseason healthy and I want to see somebody else step up at the other guard position. I'm also interested to see where Petty is at. It's gonna take Hack at least a season so im not going to expect a ton out of him but I would like to see Petty play well.
Just very happy football is back. I especially want to see the QB situation play out. Enjoyed all the opinions expressed in this thread. Thank U fellow Jet fans..
Watching the progress of the young QBs will be exciting. Our D will rock. Our new, faster LB corps will elevate the front line. This is the first year in a while where we have excess talent at the WR position and potentially the secondary. Down selecting will be a bitch....and the bottom feeders of the AFC will scoop up our left overs. We are close to having a top notch team, and one QB away from greatness. Can't wait to see them play. Go Jets.
https://www.sny.tv/jets/news/jets-r...chart-heading-into-preseason-opener/194420612 (Bowles has) liked what he's seen out of RB Bilal Powell. "He looks a lot quicker than he did last year," Bowles said. "He's always smart, he's always talking, he's steady. What you see is what you get all the time from him. ... He does a good job training. He keeps his mouth shut, he's very smart, he's very studious and he's very attentive."
I believe what Bowles means is that, Powell's 'always talking' as a leader but yet 'keeps his mouth shut' in terms of not speaking negative spreading cancer within the locker room etc In other words he's leading by an example as a professional.
Im looking to see what guys like Geno and the second and third strings look like. Will we see Hackenberg?Or Petty? Or all 3
I am interested in seeing how Geno has developed sitting for a year and watching the game... he has better physical tools than our starting QB so if the game has slowed down for him and he is getting it at a bear minimum we have a competent backup. I am also interested in the LBs. Seems like the Jets have increased the speed of this unit by leaps and bounds. Want to see how that looks on the field... Finally want to see special teams, this has not been a good unit for the Jets in quite some time. How about a punter that can boom it high and can also hit the coffin corner......
