This thread had talked about how close the AFC is. That makes the first 6 games even more important. Specifically 4 of the 6. Including the first 3 against the Bengals, Bills and Chiefs. Each of those could have HUGE playoff ramifications. That is why the NFL is the best sport, but also why it is the toughest to succeed. Losses to the Seahawks and Cardinals would hurt less, but still want to get out of the gate with a good record. Playing in Pittsburgh is never easy either. So a lot of talk has gone into the first 6 games, but I think the talk should be about the first 3. The Jets need to go (2-1) out of the gate I feel. Especially if they are playing for a Wild Card spot in the end, instead of the AFC East.
No excuses for some of the players on this squad. Fitzpatrick and Marshall are two of the guys in particular who stand out. Those 2 guys have never even been to the playoffs and here you have the division competition's best player suspended for 4 games to start the year. Win the division. Get to the playoffs. Fitzpatrick was a pain in the ass all offseason, finally gets his $12 million. Time to earn it right now with a wide open division for the taking.
No doubt. I agree 100%. Fitz put himself in this spot. Hopefully he does well this year. Marshall did all he could last year and I expect the same in 2016.
I'd like to bury this thread in a 20 foot ditch. Haven't we been through this before? Whenever the Jets look good on paper or start building towards something things mysteriously go tits up. 1999: After a 12-4 season in 1998 and one game away from the Super Bowl, the Bill Parcells Jets are the favorites in the AFC. Testaverde goes down with an Achilles tear, out for the season in the first half of the first game. I couldn't believe my eyes. 2005: After a promising 2004 (10-6 and playoff run) Herm Edwards, Chad Pennington, Curtis Martin are primed for a great season. Penny gets injured after three weeks and the Jets go from 10-6 to 4-12. Herm lasts one more year. 2007: The "Mangenius" era. After a great 2006 freshman season (10-6), where Mangini (jr Bellicheck) revives the Jets D and a healthy Chad brings them to a wildcard birth, the Jets then stink up the joint and go 4-12. Mangini is able to hang around for a year but the grumbling in the clubhouse about what a dictator he was led to the Rex Ryan shoot from the hip era. I know I'm being a darksider here and folks are just trying to be entertained in August, and I dont want to be a buzzkill, but we really need to temper our expectations a bit. 4-12, 8-8, 12-4 anything can happen.
We have lots of youth but I believe this current group of players has a 2, maybe 3 year window to compete for a ring. Fitzpatrick. Forte. Marshall. Decker. Mangold. Clady. Harris. Revis. We're a really young team with great veteran leadership. We must capitalize as a contend while the likes of these veterans still have juice.
I wish it was true that the Jets had more potential than the Raiders. That simply isn't true. They have top notch young players on both sides of the ball. They easily have a top three offense line in the game.( think that doesn't matter. Forget their offense for a moment. ( clearly better at Qb) Their defense will make the biggest improvement in 2016 ( loaded on that side of ball now thanks to Fa and the draft ). That should be one of the better defenses in the league. They have the most versatile defensive front in the game.( so many guys can play multiple positions that opposing offenses never knows where they are coming from. Not to mention so many guys that can rush the passer. Secondary is like night and day last year to this year unit. We all want to be homers, but you would clearly take what the Raiders have now, over what the Jets have.( drafted very well the last couple of years). Hopefully with Brady missing four games the Jets can capitalize and finally win the Afc East. Might be only one team that makes the playoffs from Afc East.( brutal schedule for everyone in the Afceast , while other divisions play much softer schedule).
First off your teams that you have the best shot to be the playoffs. ( makes no sense). The four teams that win their division will get the top four spots. ( if the Jets don't win Afc east they are playing for the fifth and sixth spot( wild card) Here is my six top teams . 1 Patriots 2. Raiders 3. Steelers 4 Texans 5. bengals 6. Kc or Denver. The First seven games will tell if the Jets are a playoff team. Play a lot of teams they can be competing for for a playoff spot . Win those games put themselves in great position. Lose and their season can be over after seventh week.
It's called Power Rankings. Not AFC playoff seeding. We will see. Probably right, but I want to see how they look. They could surprise people.
The problem is that all of that youth is on the defensive side of the ball. If we don't retool the offense in the draft effectively next year (meaning multiple starters, at least two out of the first three rounds) we're going to be real bad for a couple years.
I wish you were right but it's hard to put the Jets at number 2 in Power Rankings. When you look at their starting Qb, and their offense line. ( two area you don't want to be weak at). Those two areas could doom their season. Until both are upgraded hard to realistic put the Jets that high. Hopefully they can upgrade that offenseline when teams start to cut down to 53.
Yea you're right I seen a report toady where Rex stated how he's 'very concerned' about an injury to Reggie Ragland, their 2nd round draft pick; during a "no contact" injury while chasing Reggie Bush from behind. They're already without their 1st Round draft pick in Shaq Lawson due to an offseason shoulder surgery. Ragland & Lawson. That's there first two draft picks right there and not only did Lawson go down today but Kevin Reddick, a 26 year old linebacker suffered an acl sprain which could sideline him for over 6 weeks. Sammy Watkins is also soon to return from a broken leg although has missed some time including all of OTA's and training camp may end up lingering his development/progression as a young talent.
"Never take counsel of your fears" Gen Stonewall Jackson Here we are the eve of Battle..enough of this Defeatism Look at the Team and don't say its "realism" lol
+10000 I have and other posters been crying bout this for months My only thought here is that currently our gazillion dollar D can put Brady T Taylor Dalton on their back, maybe knock them outa game
I hear you, but we have a number of younger posters who haven't been burned as often as we have. Hopefully, they'll be right and Jets fortunes have changed for the better. We'll see.
