not to burst your bubble but working with a QB guru after the season and before the draft to improve your stock is more like commonplace now with the guys that can afford it. You mention Manziel, he went West to train with famed QB guru George Whitfield prior to being drafted. He has no discipline, drive, maturity. Hackenberg was there with Whitfield too btw. He trained with both Whitfield and Jordan Palmer the last few years... like drinking pepsi and coke
there are plenty of examples on both sides. guys who sat and busted and guys who sat and where good. guys who started right away and sucked and guys who started right away and where great. there is really no correlation one way or another. the only real correlation is that bad qbs with question marks tend to fail more then guys who are better prospects with better track records coming in. sanchez would have sucked no matter what, cause he has no accuracy and a super low iq. same exact thing with geno. those guys werent ruined, they were super flawed coming in. reps on the practice squard werent changing that
One other thing to remember about his mechanics are his mechanics were mostly correct until that idiot took over Penn State and screwed up his mechanics. Since his mechanics before were mostly correct it shouldn't take too long to revert back to his old form (that may be part of the reason for the radical difference from his combine performance to his pro day performance). He'll still have some issues on short touch passes, but almost all young QBs with really strong arms have that problem. These issues tend to arise because (i) they overthrow short passes under pressure or into tight windows and (ii) when they try to slow up their throw to make their short throw be more accurate and catchable they change their mechanics. The guys who become franchise QBs learn to develop the touch needed. Elway and Favre both had that problem, if I recall correctly. They learned to overcome it.

Looks good on the long ball. Missed a few short throws...nothing we didn't know there. Still doesn't look like he's always stepping into throws. It's a testament to his arm strength, if anything.
I don't really get these drills and what is actually proves for a QB. No pressure no backers or DB's and he is still missing throws. His combine performance was atrocious also. I do not equate completion percentage with accuracy two totally different measurements and two many factors to extrapolate here. There two types of Qb's in the NFL that I think can be become Franchise qb's. The first is the strong arm kid that can fit the ball in tight windows and can get away with poor reads (Marino or Favre). Then there is the QB that throws on time and in Rhythm( Montana) . The commonality of either style is the you put the ball where you want it (accuracy) you will not be a Franchise Qb in the NFL without accuracy. That is what worries me about this kid and Petty for that matter. You can't hit receivers in shorts and T-shirst it does not get easier when the pads go on no matter how well read a defense. That is no guarantee either reading a college D much different than the pros. What I like about the kid is that he is big and strong and is a coaches son. That usually bodes well for a high football IQ. There are plenty of coaches with high football IQ that cannot play in the NFL. We will see but all signs point to a project QB that will need a couple years to develop.

I'm really high on him, like no other QB we drafted over the last 10 years. Totally from my gut I'll be the first to admit it. I can not wait to see this kid in training camp and pre season. I think the coaching staff will do wonders with him. He might be the real deal once he learns the NFL ropes. I'm more concerned about rushing him into a starting role than anything else. The cynical side of me predicts that many of those that totally dumped on this pick, be it fans or experts, will be upfront and center clamoring for him to start if either Fitz or Geno screws up after a handful of games. And then the Jet's saga will soar to a new high.
