Well bear in mind Maccagnan did have some contact with Bill O'Brien his last year with the Texans, I'm sure they probably discussed Hackenberg at least once.

Good, it was our very best shot at a QB. He might fail or he might succeed, but we needed to pull the plug on a QB. Hopefully they saw plenty on him we did not. Just remember that this wasn't a desperation move and it had nothing to do with Fitz. Our scouting department has loved this guy for months and possibly years. I'm no Qb evaluator so I'm gonna wait it out and see. I just hope he sits this year, even if that means Geno or Petty starting.
I had him in a number of my mocks, but not this high. But in honesty if the Jets were taking a QB It had to be here pretty much, by the time they pick again the next tier of QB's would be gone. That said I would have waited and drafted Whitehair, Clark, Coleman or Alexander, possibly Cravens.
Not sure why this writes off Petty. This writes off Geno for sure. The QB's will be Fitz, Petty, Hack.

He's a terrible QB evaluator, probably a terirble GM. He'll be fired in 3 years with these kind of picks.
Jets are sticking their necks way out. This is not like them. They must really want this guy and they must think he will not get to the next round where they pick. I have never seen him play a down so I will have to trust their judgment here.
If we are going to draft like this the NFL needs to move the drafy back to New York so we can watch Jet fans booing the picks.
Then everyone in the scouting department needs to be fired. Anyone with two eyes who have seen Penn St. play these last 2 years could realize that Hackenberg is a talentless hack. The most important aspect of a QB is accuracy, Hackenberg has none. You can't fix a guy that has 2 out of every 5 throws go crazy wide. He will throw tons of interceptions in the NFL.
