fair enough and i respect your opinion. to me its a roll we could have filled effectively in later rounds and a player whose talent wasn near those taken around him. there may not of been 110% homerun guy, but i think all the guys taken imediately after were significantly better prospects.

i do think they tried to move up to get coleman... too bad that fell through, i thought he would have been the perfect pick.

Like I've already posted in the draft forum:
Lee will be a great player for us. The FA-acquisition of Bruce Carter showed us, what type of players Bowles and Maccagnan had in mind when it comes to improving our LBs. We needed LBs with speed and coverage skills to complement our run stoppers D. Harris, E. Henderson and T. Jones. That's exactly what we got with Lee and Carter.

Darron Lee will be a hybrid inside linebacker for us, pretty similar to what Deone Bucannon is for the Arizona Cardinals (Bucannon was listed as "moneybacker" or "$LB" on the Cardinal's depth chart (now ILB); on NFL.com he is even listed as OLB). The main difference will be, that Lee is going to roam around more horizontally, playing OLB (and even Nickel) in certain packages.

Good thing you aren't drafting for the Cardinals otherwise they wouldn't have Deone to play that key role, having been drafted in the first.

Davis missed a lot of tackles.

I think you nailed his role here.Mccagnan called him an inside linebacker in interviews after the selection

    20. New York Jets
    Darron Lee, LB, Ohio State
    GRADE: B+
The Jets need more players with real movement skills, and with Myles Jack's medicals pulling him down the board, Lee may very well be the next-best option. He won't impress anyone with his size (6' 1", 232 pounds), but remember that Jets coach Todd Bowles was in Arizona when Karlos Dansby and Daryl Washington were redefining what mobile linebackers could do. Now, Bowles has his own cover linebacker who can tackle pretty well, rush a bit and cover everything from curl-flat to seam routes. From that perspective, it's a good pick. Those who are unimpressed are just going to have to realize that the 230-pound linebacker is the wave of the future.

I'm seeing post after post about edge setting, rushing the passer, and OLB.

i think its a good comparison. bucannon was a good fit for arizona. but was he a better pick then kelvin benjamin who went just after or teddy bridgewater a few picks later?

You can argue that he has been a better pick as of now.

Benjamin had 70+ catches, 1000+ yards and 10 TDs as a rookie
    Bridgewater has been average

i dont think you can say he has been a better pick then benjamin. bridgewater maybe, but probably not.

I don't think D. Lee is the best OSU LB I'm this draft. I wasn't a huge fan of Lee's when he played at OSU.

I didn't feel he was a first rounder, I think the combine numbers were great, so I'm worried that this pick was bases primarily around those numbers.

Least favorite OSU player in this draft. I'm actually disappointed in this pick.

    Hope I'm wrong.

I may be wrong but I don't think AZ drafted Buccanon specifically for that role. I don't think it existed before he got there. I think they had an abundance of talented safeties that they wanted to put on the field and devised a scheme to do it. Now I think we are trying to recreate it rather than having it happen organically based on the personnel.

If Lee turns his head in pass coverage he'll be a step ahead of Kyle Wilson at the start.

I'm pretty happy with the Lee pick. I think Jack can been good, but too risky as a 1st round pick. I wonder how much more he'll drop, as well as Smith.

Seems like his biggest knock with Lee is his size, but one of the articles said he bulked up from entering Ohio State at 197 lbs to 232, so with our staff he should be able to add some size if need be.

I think the best attribute is his speed and that he can play sideline to sideline. He said he can cover guys in the slot in his interview with ESPN radio.

He's also a 3 down guy that adds a lot of value, compared to Ragland who scouts said is only a 2 down guy, which could be why Mac thought he was the BPA

Only time will tell how good Lee will be, but welcome to the Jets!

Some people from Jets Nation are arguing that we should have picked Myles Jack.

Do they not fucking realize that his knee is completely fucked up? LOL, I'm not sure I would draft Jack at all.

Darron Lee had 66 tackles last year. By comparison Jaylon Smith had 111 and Kentrell Brothers had 152.

It's very unlikely that our GM, who has an extensive scouting background, would invest a first round draft selection in a player based primarily on combine numbers.
