Would I take either one over Geno long term? Absolutely. But Geno has experience in the NFL, bad or not. These guys don't. They are enigmas, I don't see how someone can rank them as a result over a veteran QB, no matter how "shitty" he may be.
It's not about the first game in September. It's about every game for the next decade. By your rationale you'd take Peyton Manning over either of them. And he's done. _
Peyton is out of his prime and has lost arm strength and is nursing some serious injuries. I would rather have an experienced QB over a rookie QB for my team unless they have some notion about throwing away a season, which no team or management ever thinks about doing heading into a season.
QBs who put up the numbers Geno put up during his first two years mainly continue to put up those numbers in future seasons. Whereas most rookie QBs taken high the first round tend to put up better numbers than that. So it's far from unreasonable to say they will be better than Geno this season.
Here are the respective Adjusted Yards Per Attempt totals and QB ratings of various franchise QBs in their 1st year: Drew Brees - 5.5 A/YA; 76.9 QB rating Eli Manning - 3.8 A/YA; 55.4 QB Rating Derek Carr - 5.3 A/YA; 76.6 QB Rating Blake Bortles - 5.0 A/YA; 69.5 QB Rating Geno Smith - 5.3 A/YA; 66.5 QB Rating So Geno performed about as well or better as several franchise QBs, including Brees and Eli, in his 1st year. While most QBs who put up poorer numbers in their 1st seasons never improve much, some do. It depends on film evaluation of individual QBs, which you don't do.
Can you redo your drivel and include the respective players first TWO years like HomeoftheJets said? He said first TWO years. Not FIRST year. Because while some of those players had awful years their first year that rivaled Geno's shit, Geno also sucked moose cock his SECOND year. Oh, and can you include ALL relevant stats like TDs and INTs and completion % etc, not just the two bullshit stats you seem to cherry pick. Thankee. _
You don't know what you're talking about, that's all. A QB's 1st year performance is predictive of later years all the same and following HomeOfTheJets' logic, the 2nd year should be more of the same until failure. However, if you insist, I'll compare the relative QB's Adjusted Net Yards Per Pass Attempt, which penalizes sacks: Drew Brees 2nd year: 5.12 NY/A; 67.5 QB Rating Eli Manning 2nd year: 6.12 NY/A; 75.9 QB Rating Blake Bortles 2nd year: 6.25 AY/A; 88.2 QB Rating Derek Carr 2nd year: 6.22 AY/A; 91.1 QB Rating Geno Smith 2nd year: 5.95 NY/A; 77.5 QB Rating So basically Geno's 2nd year is right in line with Brees' and Eli's production in their respective 2nd years. He was well above Brees' production and just under Manning's despite the latter having superior receiving options in Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey. That is to say, if Eli threw to Kerley and an injured Decker rather than Plaxico and Shockey, his numbers probably drop to Geno's level or lower. So Geno is in good stead relative to HOF QBs like Eli and Brees. Moving on, Bortles and Carr can be thrown out as comparisons to QBs like Geno because their 2nd years include targets to record-setting #1 receivers in Cooper and Allen Robinson. I'm not including bulk stats like TDs, INTs, etc because stats per pass attempt give a better isolated picture of QB efficiency. AY/A and NY/A already input and adjust for TDs, INTs, etc.
Hahahaaaaaa. What's dumb patronizing is you and your man love for Geno. Geno's first two years came 10 plus years after Brees' and 8 years after Eli's when the league was vastly different. Eli had 24 TDs to 17 INTs his second year. Brees was just about 50-50 after 2 years and his comp % was better in a tougher era. Geno's TDs to INTs is putrid and his accuracy sucks. But of course you are now making excuses for Geno. And now after throwing Bortles and Carr INTO the comparison you want to take them OUT because they actually IMPROVED their second years while Geno still sucked? Lololol, thanks for the laughs Genobot. Can't wait until all you guys follow the Tebots out of town. _
You're forgetting that QB numbers were much lower over a decade ago, when Brees and Manning were starting out. Today, those numbers would put a QB in the bottom 5, which is where Geno was, but back then those numbers wouldn't even put a QB in the bottom 10. Notice how Bortles and Carr, who are in Geno's age bracket, put up much better numbers than Geno.
Yeah but Geno is going to be a Hall of Famer like Eli and Brees. Carr was better in his ROOKIE year than Geno was in his second and the Raiders were MUCH worse. Bortles absolutely destroyed Geno in his second year. Geezuz fuck these Genobots suck. _
You know Sid Luckman's stats his first two years were much worse than Geno's and he made the Hall of Fame. _
The sample size is small so there is some limitation as to what we can glean, but nevertheless the data so far refutes the general argument that poor QB numbers in the beginning of QB careers necessarily predict the same in the years following. Several QBs have improved despite lackluster Year 1 and Year 2s. Furthermore, your assertion that the numbers are outdated and (therefore) invalid seems to conflict with the 1st year QB results. Generally rookie QBs today put up similar numbers to rookie QBs over a decade. Rookie Brees put up about the same A/YA as Rookie Geno and Bortles. This implies the general factor affecting the relative rookie performances in games has remained largely the same over the past 10 years and that the numbers are just fine.
What did I tell you about replying to me with this insult bullshit? Fitz's dick so far up your ass you can't read? I don't give a fuck how incredulous you think my conclusions are. Either reply to them with facts and/or reasoned debate or don't reply at all. I don't want to hear some Fitz faggot's opinion about what posters suck. The only sucker here will be you when Fitz doesn't resign and I laugh at you. You don't know shit about Carr or Geno. In his first year Carr played with washed up vets like James Jones, same as Geno with Holmes. However Carr also had a familiar system in addition to better or equal ancillary weapons to what Geno had in NYJ. Thus Carr's weapons relative to Geno's were at best a wash and at worst better. Carr performed about as well as Geno did, which means he definitively wasn't better overall.
I already replied honestly to your bullshit and I don't give a fuck what you told me. I'll reply however I like. Geno sucked balls for 2 years and he'll continue to suck balls. Eli and Brees played in a different era and were STILL more productive in terms of TDs to INTs. I don't give a rats ass about AYPA or NYPA. But if you want to compare apples to apples, Carr and Bortles were FAR superior to Geno in their second years showing the positive improvement you need to see in order to let them lead your franchise forward rather than backwards with a Geno. We get it, you're a Genobot apologist. Have fun trolling a new board next year. But I don't give a shit about what you want or don't want to hear from me. _
You're a bitch just like Fitz and you'll be sucking his dick while you watch Geno play this season. Look forward to it, old ass faggot. You know about as much as a baby monkey. Shut the fuck up when grown ups are talking.
Whoa whoa whoa that's a white flag alert. You seem to have some latent homosexual feelings you're letting slip out as you continue to try to spin why you thimk Geno doesn't suck. Well done lol. _
The only homosexual here is you. You're a bitch too let's not forget. You think I care about some little forum like you do? I have a life. This forum doesn't define me like it does you. I have 140 posts and you have like 20,000 for fuck sakes'. Your entire life is this forum and Fitz's scrotum. Fuckin loser
Oh I see you edited your response after I replied. I know more about Geno and Carr than you could possibly fathom. Carr's FIRST year was BETTER than Geno's SECOND year and Carr blew Geno out of the water his second year. But you keep giving us the excuse about talent around Geno that made him run out the back of end zones, run out of bounds before the LOS, throw 3 INTs in 8 passes completing more to the other team than his own team, try to shovel the ball behind his ass, play like a complete dumbfuck. I wanted Carr 2 years before he came out, was his biggest proponent in the draft forum. Don't tell me I don't know anything about Carr child. And oh yeah, I saw Geno his whole college career, saw him play live 3 times, saw him suck dick against mybOrsngemrn in the snow. The guys a fucking dope. Have fun trolling a new teams board next year. And you seem to be angry mad about "faggots". That's an awful word. What are you hiding? _
