Play for free now so he can sue the league in 20 years.

Some players really make it easy to side with the NFL brass.

Just now he decided he wants to try? Everyone knows as soon as he gets his paycheck he'll coast.

Meh. Maybe he learned his lesson and would capitalize on a second chance. I'd like to see some team at least give him a shot in camp. Everyone deserves a second chance.

see I disagree NSN. This isn't a guy who made a mistake once and deserves a second chance. Russell had the chance(s) of a lifetime with the Raiders. He didn't give a shit at all from day 1 there. Showing up to camp overweight, not learning the plays, drinking the codeine syrup... and yet they still gave him the franchise, made him the starter on numerous occasions when he didn't deserve it, made concessions and not too mention gave him truckloads of money.

Vernon Gholston was a horrible bust for our Jets. But he tried and it just didn't work out. That happens. He got a second chance and that didn't work out either.

What Russell was is borderline criminal, he never once gave the Oakland Raiders an effort. It was all a joke to him. Now he's 30 years old, realizing how stupid that was and wants a second chance? fuck that. thats a slap in the face to people who deserve second chances and to those who are just getting started and busting their ass today.

I feel the same way about Johnny Manziel as well. If I was a GM I wouldn't give Manziel or Russell a second chance in this league even for free.

I'm just looking at his time in the NFL as one big mistake. He didn't have his priorities straight and fucked up big time. He blew a huge opportunity. Some people need to fail hard before they get realize how fucking stupid they were.

He may be too old to get a second chance but some team with a solid starter in place could give him a shot as a backup on a short leash.

maybe it just bugs me to no end to hear about guys like Jamarcus Russell and compare it to plenty of young players who are right on the cusp and never break through that would've given their left testicle to be in his position and now he wants a second chance

Maybe he did, but I wouldn't risk $760,000 on it.

To be fair, he had nearly the same amount of passing yards, a better TD/INT ratio, more wins, and a better INT% than Geno did in his second year....

Yes, but with a much lower completion percentage, then he followed that up his 3rd year with a 48.8 completion percentage with 3 TDs, 11 INTs and 9 fumbles. Add to that his sacks, which had he attempted as many passes as most of the other QBs in the league he would have led the league by a wide margin in sacks taken. Probably about 26% higher than the next closest.
