http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2016/04/live_updates_from_mike_maccagnans_jets_pre-draft_p.html Jets GM Mike Maccagnan with the media: Our focus is Ryan, but again he's a free agent... Our goal is to facilitate a contact with Ryan. GM Mike Maccagnan tells the media the Jets did inquire about the No. 1 Overall selection. Maccagnan on Paxton Lynch: Degree of skill that is intriguing... We think he's a good prospect. Mentions the college system & refers to Petty Interesting stuff from Maccagnan on QBs. Says QB pipeline would be beneficial... Says Jets like Bryce Petty quite a bit. Maccagnan tells media Jets would not consider rescinding Wilkerson's franchise tag.
If mac thinks paxton is worth it and hes there then take him. If not Im fully on board with drafting BPA at 20 and having a camp battle between geno, petty and whoever.... hoping petty wins out.
He said hopefully he can get some "MORE" draft picks. That can only happen by trading down and/or a player (Mo?).
Mac's comments on Fitz should tell everyone all they need to know. He's a FA and Mac seems to covet him more than he covets Mo , who could be on his way out , and Brick , who is already out. Also he called this QB class "average". Could be a smokescreen. But I would be shocked if he picks one of these guys early. And with the news that the Browns might pick Lynch at 8 (horrible move) it's looking likely the QB pool will be picked clean by the time our current pick comes around. Lynch is not a guy you trade up for
Yeah. I don't see us taking a QB in the first round. Lynch will be gone. Man I hope we get some more picks.
If lynch is at 20; he is the pick unless a team offers us a real nice load. More so he is not there so it'll be a position player, hopefully LB.
To me it's almost a certainty that Mac will trade back once or twice in the middle rounds to acquire more picks.
He looked so cool and calm in that presser, totally in control of the situation - he would make a great poker player.
You can take everything he said with a grain of salt. He won't tell you what he is doing till he has done it. One part of me hate not knowing what is going on, we have been able to predict everything for years. Another part of me loves that no one has a clue. Every teams and scout and media analyst is just guessing.
If you believe in Paxton you have to trade up and get him. There's not much this team is missing but a franchise QB is one. If he can develop into that you have to set up a trade up scenario. Mo is a good bargaining chip we should look to see if a team like San Fran who may also need a QB and could possibly take Lynch would entertain a trade. And if they don't do it you call Baltimore, they have a smart GM and know what kind of player Mo is.
I have a serious suspicion that Mac has some crazy, ballsy scenarios in his back pocket that no one has been able to decode yet. It probably involves Mo, a swap of picks and a may be even a move up for someone they really covet. And when the bell rings, teams like Buffalo and others before us will be pissed. Much like last year, when he fooled them silly with his great selection of Williams. A steal. Not one soul thought he would have the balls to go DE. Now more than ever the pick looks stellar. The really question to me is whom are they targeting. There is one thing we know for sure, it will not be the popular and over selected pick flaunted by the so called draft experts. If he continues to minimize at the press conferences the QB selection, well then lets be ready.
Taking Williams was the right move, but I'm not sure how much praise he deserves for that. All he did was avoid doing something dumb.
Williams wasn't really a ballsy pick. No1 expected him to be available at our pick but when he was it was a no brainer
The Jets could move Mo for a pick to take an OLB or CB in the early teens. The real question is how many teams are feeling Mo out on deals right now with an eye towards being able to make a move on draft day? He's very hard to make a deal around in a 15-20 minute window in the middle of the 1st round when he suddenly becomes a good option for the team in question. It's very possible that the Jets have a deal available on draft day but can't get it done because Mo and his agent don't have enough time to work out the fine details and the other team can't pull the trigger on just a strong indication of what Mo is looking for.
I am almost very sure that Wilkerson is on trade block, because Macc talked about everything but not about keeping Mo on the roster for 100% sure and we have to have some offers on the table. Remember when we gave permission to Revis' agent to discuss the contract details with TB before we've traded him. Situation is similar as MO's agent need some times to agree about new contract with trade partner.
How can they not have enough time!?!? Look how fast Norman did his deal or in FA frenzy how many big contracts got done in hours not days.... I don't think that's the problem at all... I think the problem is compensation for the Jets. Mo's coming off a broken leg, wants the moon and it's an extremely deep DT draft pool where teams can get a younger cheaper first round talent.
Paxton Lynch is garbage I pray the jets stay away from him. I don't see how'd he win a QB competition .. I mean the dude is 6'7 with a rocket arm and still gets passes deflected at the line.. still throws ugly lob floaters with little to no accuracy.. isn't athletic.. gets ROCKED when he gets hit.. plays with no swag.. just a tall doofy guy that had his way with schools we never heard of but got straight up embarrassed vs teams like Auburn and Ole Miss.. if you watch his game film from those games.. omg your eyes might bleed
