Would you spend a day 2 pick on a kicker?

You're welcome. I was so shocked by what you said, I wanted to see who was drafted and who was UFA and what the numbers were like. It's very interesting.

Thanks for the clarification. That helps. I understand where you're coming from, and I like that you gave logical reasons for your opinion. I've seen some just say they'd never draft a kicker, and then say because it was stupid or wasting a pick, and never gave any clear, rational reasons for their position.

No way is our roster strong enough to waste a Day 2 pick on a kicker.

Punters/Kickers should be off the board until round 7. There's always projects with solid ceiling and extremely low floors available in Day 3 and that's where I'm hoping Big Mac goes.

After the Steelers dumpster fire of a kicking position last year, I think Aguayo has to be on their short list for the 3rd.

Draft a punter in the 6th round, maybe we can salvage this shitfest by Bowels and McCagnan.

A good FG kicker can win games for you that a mediocre FG kicker would not, so, hitting a 50 yarder here or there can be the difference between 8-8 and 10-6. It's an odd position, because you play <30 seconds a game and can yet have an out-sized impact, especially on 2 minute drills. How many times do you see drives succeed by just trying to get it to the 34 yard line or so for a guy to step up and nail a 51 yarder. That's a luxury another team with a weak leg might not have, that results in them trying to push it down inside the 20 and making mistakes.

Look at the Pats-Rams super bowl...it basically came down to the pats playing to win, thinking they could surprise the Rams and make a long FG. They did, game over, no OT. In hindsight, lots of teams in the league would've't taken Vinatieri in the mid-rounds had they known, but, the trick is you never really know.

So, if you see a kid with truly special talent, I'm not against drafting him somewhere, though likely not on day 2. Kickers can last a long time if you get a good one, and they can win you a lot of games over that span by making the difficult FGs early in a game that prevent you from having to chase a game late. I think most teams figure they can get someone decent and don't reach for the pick though, since so few seem worth it. Generally, I'd wait until round 5 or later.
