Wow. This never happens. The Panthers just rescinded the franchise tag on Josh Norman, putting him on the open market. What a big news day; the NFL truly has no offseason.
I think we would set the record for most money tied up into our secondary if we signed him.. And we got like $58 dollars so idk..
Wait we actually don't have any money... Disregard But seriously what in the hell just happened, 27 years old top 5 corner for sure... He's about to get paid. Panthers fan gotta be pissed right now, it's like us just releasing Mo, FOR NOTHING. A week after the draft this is crazy. It'd be nice to have some cap room, but in Mac I trust.
Not sure what the Panthers are thinking. They weren't in cap trouble worst case they could've made him play out his franchise tag and have a top 5 CB next year. Good luck replacing that Carolina.
No one has a breakout season at age 28 unless something new is allowing them to do it. He had a great system and mega talented guys around him to help him do his job better. The Panthers not wanting to pay him is just like us not wanting to pay Fitz; realizing that the environment (not the player) was the reason for late career success. Good job by them, even though it's weird they didn't just keep his rights for 2016. Maybe something got personal in negotiations.
Why is Carolina Panther news in the New York Jets section? http://forums.theganggreen.com/forums/national-football-league.11/
One of my first thoughts was actually geez do they need the cap space for a MO trade? Honestly something like that's the only logical reason they would let him go without any compensation.
We need a QB first. We have a ton of corners on this team. Now..I'd trade up to draft Jalen Ramsey but no thanks on Norman.
You are assuming Norman would take a contract with only $16M guaranteed. He is looking for a long term contract with likely $35-$40M guaranteed.
Remember that time in the last decade where the Pats maintained their success by drastically overpaying players? Me neither.
