The NY life and the cameras the go with it is exactly what brought Brandon Marshall to the Jets. So while players may not take a big pay cut to work here, some top players may opt to play for the Jets just to get closer to the 'scene'. I'm pretty certain most NFL players would prefer NY to Cleveland so we have that going for us.
The NFL is a tough living. I have no problem at all with a guy getting top dollar for his services. I just wish we didn't pay that top dollar as often as we do. It's not good from a team perspective to have your best players making 8 figures and 35 guys at the bottom of the roster making minimums. That's how you get a culture of "I'm going to get mine when it is there" instead of "I want to win a Super Bowl with these guys and make some good money while I do it." Darrelle Revis is (still) great on the field but he is bad for the Jets culture in a big way. All those young guys see him working hard and all they are thinking is "if I work hard like him someday I will make the top money also." You know Mo had to be thinking that in 2011 and 2012.
I can't belive I read this,and I can't belive you wrote it.Coming to NY isn't a big deal to players anymore and hasn't been for a long time.No one who matters is taking a pay cut to play for the Jets
Yeah, it's the other way around. NY/NJ is high taxes, high cost of living, etc. Players want more money to play here than they do in Pittsburgh or Minnesota or Kansas City. The only other city that is like this in terms of jacking up prices is Chicago. LA will be the same moving forward. SF and Boston have cheaper options for cost of living if you don't have to live in the city but they have the high tax problem also.
The cost of living in SF is on par with NYC. Housing there is at the top and it may even be more expensive than NYC.
New York still has its advantages, if you want to pursue broadcasting. Boomer, Phil Simms, now Marshall.
The Jets are 45:1 odds of winning the SB. They are tied for 16th in odds. How do you spin that to Mo? There are 15 other teams he can go to and have a better chance of winning the world championship. The jets will have a much tougher schedule this year. How do you think they are title contenders? I know it is difficult to compare our jobs to that of football players, but I know when i was given a raise this eyar, I didn't tell my company, "NO, please give that to Marty in the other region. He probably needs it more than me."
I would say that's it. People make a big deal about the NY nightlife scene. I guess if a player is into getting into the crowds of celebs and crap, they may be more likely to in NY. Otherwise, anywhere you go in the country, you're bound to find somewhere that there's clubs, girls, and booze. Sure, some cities have more variety or different styles than others, but NY isn't really all that crazy or different anyway.

Dose he have additional income vehicles here in NYC that he wouldn't have in other cities, IMO yes he does. Some of you don't agree with me and that's perfectly okay. I appreciate all opinions but please be able to coherently communicate those opinions.
how long before the nfl enacts 'max contracts' like in the nba? For example, max contract for a QB would top out at $15M/yr. DB $10M. RB $7M. DE $10. etc. The overall cap is the same, but something like this would push the $'s down the ranks, instead of the current system where 10% of the players get 90% of the $$$. All these players sacrifice their bodies and minds.
Good point. When in NY, Sanchez was with Kate Upton, who was pretty peak at the time as well. Not sure he would have had that experience in Philly. Though not sure the guys that like to party can make it as a QB in todays NFL. Seems like a 18 hour job for 3/4 of the year.
