yep i agree, the premium positions are expensive, especially on their second contracts.

expensive doesn't necessarily mean overpay though..
the overpays come from paying average players top end money, either due to age and upside of the player (not production), or just desperation by the team.

I know we need to get younger at T, but is Beachum a guy we should spend big on?
It's hard for me to say, as i haven't seen a whole lot of him.
I know he went in the 7th round, is a bit undersized, and is coming off an ACL.
He has shown promise, but has never been a Pro-Bowler by any means. Are we banking on age and upside here? Why aren't the Steelers interested?
would we balk at signing Mo (An All-Pro) for 14M, but dole out over 10M for Beachum?

guess i'll just have to trust Mac and the scouts on this one.
I would have preferred signing a RT like Schwartz for 6M, while negotiating Brick down. less risk.
either way i'd look for Conklin in 1st round, and Spriggs in 2nd round as options.

Not necessarily....I still think Jets are going OT in the first round. That takes care of one slot.....

I'm curious to see the figures and length with Beachum's contract........

Mac said he believes in drafting o-linemen in the mid rounds, aka jarvis type guys who won't do shit

They probably threw 10-14 million at him

Probably priced himself out of our range.

He did say that but he was also scouting Erick Flowers pretty heavily last year - probably in the event the Jets traded down from their # 6 spot. A solid LT is most likely found in the first couple of rounds of the draft. Mac can't get around that unless he goes the FA route which will be hard considering the lack of funds this year. There are enough solid OLB prospects in the draft to land one in the second and even third round but not too many solid OT prospects this year.......I expect the Jets first five picks to include 2 OL and 2 LBs......

We should have been addressing the line a couple of years ago. Every year the Jets keep putting it off like a sore tooth..... well one day it's going to get infected. Ww should take at least two OL if we can develop them.

Yes that is 100% correct. They did get some great mileage out of DBrick and Mangold.......and they are set at LG. Mangold can go another 2-3 years IMO but I can see the Jets drafting a center next month and playing him at RG for the next couple of years. I can see the Jets with at least 2 new starting OL this coming season.....

Would've been a nice signing but eh well.

Conklin or Taylor Decker will look good in green.

Jacksonville almost certainly overpaid for K. Beachum. It will be interesting to see, what's going to happen with Luke Joeckel. I don't think either Beachum or Joeckel will be OK with kicking inside to OG. RT also doesn't seem likely for the loser of this competition, because the Jaguars gave a ton of money to RT Jermey Parnell (ex-Cowboy) last offseason. My guess: Joeckel is available for a trade.

And, like I said in the "Free Agents Jets May Look At"-thread:

Yes, both Schraeder and Wisniewski are free agents. And both should not command too much money.

edit: The situation with Schraeder doesn't seem completely clear. At first it was reported he was tendered with the original level (he was an UDFA, same situation was with CJ. Anderson), now it seems like he's been tendered with at 2nd round level. If this is indeed the case, he obviously would't be an option. With Schraeder out of the picture, I want Wisniewski even more starting at RG for us.

Yeah this seems a little perplexing if true.......5 million a year is peanuts for a good LT. I wonder if Mac low balled him......but likely no income tax state > income tax state played into it..
