If we can't get Powell back, would Alfred Morris be a good complementary player for Forte? Could be a good game closer back who doesn't really catch or contribute in the passing game.
I thought I read somewhere that we were interested in Bobby Rainey. I'd imagine he'd come back cheaper than Powell and he's just as good a pass catcher. That would leave Forte as the power back though and I don't know that I'd feel comfortable doing that. Tough spot. Forte is still good enough to be the featured back but you also don't want to run him into the ground. I mean ideally we just bring back Powell and call it a day.
Absolutely fantastic signing by Mac. We needed more durability at the position and what did he do? He went out and got one of the best backs in the league for cheaper and most of all, one of the most durable backs in football. Guy has only missed 8 games his entire career. GREAT signing!
Fuck them, they're still salty because we got Marshall for a 6th round pick and Forte for $2M less than Ivory.
In today's football yards from scrimmage are more important than just yards rushing...the league is so much more pass oriented now.
A friend of mine texted me saying he would have preferred signing Alfred Morris over Matt Forte...LOL But Morris would honestly be a very good compliment back to Forte.
OUCH!!!! Not that it would have mattered anyway. With the buffoons we had running the draft prior to Mac, we never would have taken Trevathan anyway.
Didn't realize he was still out there. If his price tag dips as the market dwindled I'd make an offer, especially if Powell goes.
Stylistically, I think he would be a good compliment. The questions for me are one, with all the carries he's had, how fresh are his legs and how much money does he want? If he still has some spring in his legs and his cost is cheap, yes, he could be a good compliment, but I hope we keep Powell.
Think what's being missed is had he played 16 games last year, he'd have had 1100 rushing yards, which is more than our very own Chris Ivory had. Lets say your argument is that "well, he was injured"? He's missed 7 games in his career so he's hardly injury prone. Dude is solid and was running behind the same O line that has been getting Cutler killed for years (randomly only found the numbers 2010-2012--> over 110 sacks on Cutler. The last three years were probably something similar. Any reaction other than outright excitement is nonsense. Lets build this O line and get some linebackers and we're fucking set.
The jurys still out on whether Macs a buffoon,A robot could have made the moves he did during last free agency with the money we had.Williams in round 1 was also a pick any GM would have made in that spot.I'll get a real feel for what he is after FA ends and the draft,he needs to come up big in the draft we could really use a draft where we acutually get production out of the first three picks
