The NFL shouldn't take one 2 or 3 seasons on the clip-board to get acclimated, especially with these rules in place. I hope to see some big time progression in his game, if so - I say we throw him out there.

I think they will give him plenty of preseason snaps but even if Fitz goes, my guess is they still sit him. I've heard good things but to expect anything more than garbage time at this point is wishful thinking. The Jets have destroyed enough quarterbacks by throwing them in too early. Let's not do another one.

Between Petty, some of the lesser free agents out there in Stanton, Mccoy, RGIII, heck maybe a trade for Keap ... we should be ok this isn't the be all end all

Agreed. Another year of development might be nice, but, at some point, they've got to see what they've got in Petty. I think the Jets will be okay going forward with him, a pick (Hogan?), and, in the worst case scenario, Smith.

To me the big advantage of resigning Fitz is not so much the continuity he provides, or his ability to keep us a contender, or even based on last years performance, but because he is smart as hell and can help Bryce immensely with the mental aspects of the game, so Petty can hone his skill and learn how to play smart football, not reactive football. Aside from that, from a pure win and or losses next year, one could argue that RGIII, Fitz and or (TBD) could be fairly equal, thus the price should not be excessive to the point that it hinders the rest of the team.

I wouldn't be adverse to bringing RG3 in on an incentive based contract. And we wouldn't have to give him a multi year deal either. The problem is the chances of him making it through the season are very low.

I really like Petty and hope he can develop into the QB we so much long for. With that being said, I have to trust the coaching staff to see if the kid is truly ready to take the lead role. I'm sure he'll get a lot of playing time in training camp to determine that. I am not a big fan of Fitz as I feel our WRs suffered because he couldn't throw the deep ball.

We threw Sanchez out there in '09 & '10 and made some noise.

Bryce (he needs a nickname) got to sit for a season...Sancho didn't get even get to unpack his suitcase.

    So yeah...why not....Petty v. GeNo in camp.

    Let the best man win.

He got to sit for a season behind an intelligent QB. He's got some decent support out there. I have no problem throwing his name into the mix when it comes to potential starters. Another year sitting wont change anything IMO.

    If Fitz bolts for Denver...

There are a lot worse ways to start a career than with a year of development, Marshall and Decker as your wide outs and Matt Forte as your running back. Chan runs a spread variant which seems decently suited for Petty's skill set. It's a far cry from throwing Geno out there with Jeremy Kerley and David Nelson opening day, forcing him into a west coast offense in year 1.

I think I'd rather save that $12-15 mil and bolster other areas on the roster, letting Bryce work with one of the better teams in football.

Agreed entirely. (But I'm still having trouble with this. Still can't believe that the ask is over 10M for Fitz. That's absolutely nuts.)

This is where I'm at right now as well. Roll into the season open competition with GeNOOOOOO and Petty. If you can't be successful with Marshall, Decker, and Forte then you aren't going to be successful anywhere. I think we need to take a serious look at bolstering that offensive line

If price for Fitz goes above 8-9 mil a year, I am all for this plan. Just bring another vet and go into season with Petty/Geno/vet and call it a day.

Are we trading Bryce? If he stays here he won't be working with one of the better teams in football. That's ridiculous. We're getting better, and every team has holes/weaknesses, but ours are in critical areas OLB, OL and P.

Jets are high on Petty. He could start this year, If he doesn't it's Geno. If Geno plays good, great, if not in comes Petty.

Geno/Petty/Rookie at under 2 million over a 16-18 million Fitzpatrick all day everyday. GTFO with the bullshit demands Fitzpatrick. Had you showed up in Buffalo and secured the playoff spot we could talk about 10-14 million but hell will freeze over before you're worth any more than that.
