draft someone in the 4th or 5th round, bring in someone like asiata on the cheap, and let them have at it. HB isnt an important position and we shouldnt invest heavily in it until all our other issues are solved

I think you're trying to say that the NFL is a passing league now. I would caution you to reasses your view of "importance" though. Let's specifically talk about the Jets, assuming we resign Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Without a legitimate running game or threat, Ryan Fitzpatrick is easily game planned for. He's got plenty of tape out there. You simply roll coverage to BMarsh and play everybody else in a shallow zone or press man. This is why we saw Deck in the slot so much last year, he NEEDED to win the one on one without a fresh Ivory and Powell keeping the defense honest to the run game. What the Jets truly need is a dynamic back in the pass game (spiller type guy) to win VS backers and free up the middle for Deck/Jace to win.

Powell did an admirable job filling in but wore down with the additional use. He can't be trusted to carry the load for the entire year. I still think Ridley is a possibility on the cheap. He is fully healthy now and has some appeal from a duel threat standpoint. Going with Ridley/Powell and a pass catching draft choice may be our only options due to our cap limitations.

I would argue that this offense is a top 15 RB away from and eleite offense, even with Fitzpatricks limitations in the deep passing game

Arian Fotser would make this Offense hum!!!! Maybe a one year prove it deal on the cheap. Could work based on his injury history

Foster is done. He looked slow after that bad groin injury he is going to be even slower after an achilles.

 

All the guys we will be looking at have concerns, that's just our cap situation. Foster was an all pro and honestly if we can get him for 8-10 games at 90% of what he was, I'd do it. For 2M prove it deal. It may be a great option for him. Who else do you want for 2M? We can allocate about 5-6M for that's position next year. And we need a stable of 3-4 capable backs.

I'd go with two vets and 2 draft choices.

So you're confident that Powell can stay healthy the entire year while carrying the load as a workhorse? I think he will lose effectiveness in the passing game if he carries the ball more than 12 times a game. And I agree that we should draft a back if the value is there in the first 3 rounds. But young running backs traditionally have issues in the pass protection game and picking up blitzes.

Bottom line is we will bring in a few vets that are good value and hopefully draft a future feature back.

Bell from Detroit is another option I really like

 

to me HB is the least valuable position in the sport. thats including punter and kicker. you can plug a 3 headed monster of specialsts on most teams and get the same output, while doing so for peanuts. offensive line has a bigger impact in the run game then most backs.

 

So you're saying that AP, Charles, Shaddy, Lynch, Gurley, Freeman, Sproles, Bernard...list goes on and on aren't as valuable as a kicker and or punter? I just want to make sure you're serious here.

Yes, it's a QB based NFL. But to say a dynamic back that can do it all is less valuable than a punter is just dumb. A dynamic back can create matchup nightmears for safeties and LB's. That opens up the passing game for recievers on the outside as it creates a balanced attack and more one on one match ups. With a dynamic receiver like BMarsh, I'll take him one on one VS 98% of corners. The running game sets this up
