It's opinion. You have one of the greatest QBs in the history of the game, who has pulled countless games out of the fire, you almost have to trust in him. Now granted Denver's D was tough and NE had been inconsistent on offense. They couldn't count on getting the ball 2 more times. One long, clock sustaining drive by Denver and the game was over. If the Pats score a TD there to tie or go ahead (I forget what the score was at that point), it puts pressure on the Broncos to move down the field and score. "The Book" may have said take the points on the FG, but Belicheat has been right far more than he's been wrong. Sometimes you have to go with your gut and trust your QB. I'm glad he chose that option! If he had taken the FG, they might have still pulled the win out.
It was petty blatant too. At one point Vollmer had a Broncos pass rusher pinned face down on the ground next to Brady with his knee on the guy's back with a ref right in front of them and the ref actually had to run around them to stay in the play.
