Don't even joke like that. If Wilkerson went to the Bills, it would be an epic fail on the Jets part. If they trade him, they better do it outside of the division.

    You are missing the point.

If Brick starts at LT the amount of pro-rated bonus money is small relative to his salary over the next two years.

If Brick leaves now the entire amount counts this year and we still have a huge hole to fill with salary and / or draft picks now.

His year two salary on the other hand is $14 million dollars. This is a much bigger problem if we ended up paying it.

The Broncos just gave DE Derek Wolfe 40 mil. for 4 years, not exactly helpful to us. Market value would suggest that Mo is going to shoot for 15-16 mil. per year. Maybe we can get a 3 year deal or something like that done. 3 years for 40-45.

I'm really thinking the Jets are going to franchise him and then trade him at the deadline next year for whatever they can get that is substantially better than a comp pick. If they trade him to the NFC they could effect a division race in a big way at that point in the season and somebody might be willing to bite on him for a 1st if they think he'll win them the division/make the playoffs for them.

By that point in the season the Jets will have Richardson back and they'll know what the injury situation looks like, giving them more latitude to make a deal.

I love mo wilk, but at this point it makes most sense to trade him. Our line is strong enough. You don't need that many great DEs, after that it's overkill. While he's the best, he's also not going to make or break us when we also have Leonard and Sheldon. Get multiple picks, not sure how the tender works (2 1st rounders?) and save the money. We need it at linebacker and running back.

When you say next year, do you mean the 2016 or the 2017 season? If it's the latter, I'm afraid that will be too late.

2016 at the deadline. They'd probably trade him in camp after he'd proved he could play if the Richardson suspension wasn't in the offing. The Jets may not know about a Richardson suspension until after the season starts, like the Enunwa suspension this year.

    i suppose that's a possibility.

the tag is going to cost close to 16M.
If we do that, it will affect our ability to re-sign some of our own, as well as FA's needed to help improve the team.
then turning around and trading Mo, we'll have nothing. essentially making the team worse in 2016, but i suppose in decent position for 2017 with the draft pick and r0llover money.

i don't like it, as 2016 has good potential.
i'd rather sign him now, as it will cost less than the franchise tag, and we'll need him.

would rather trade Sheldon in 2017, and get an extra pick that way.

Why do you think it will cost less than the franchise tag? All indications are the Mo is looking for a top 3 deal and that's essentially at the tag long-term at this point.

Agreed. I don't think it would make much sense to wait and try to trade him in the season. As you said, that would basically destroy any chances for the Jets to make the playoffs this season, and not only because the draft pick or picks they get in return for him wouldn't help them this season. Signing and keeping until that late, would mean that they probably would lose some of their other FAs that they'd like to keep otherwise, and cause them to have to pass on any outside FAs that they might have wanted to sign. If they trade him, it will be before the draft so they can get a draft pick or picks with which they address other positions of need.

I believe Mo will be tagged and traded. Without a doubt.

If you are looking long term with a franchise and you are trying to be a consistent winner, every year, this is the type of move you make.

We have had a good run with Mo bit our situation affords is the opportunity to cut bait, while not being effected to badly on that line with Richardson and Williams, all while gaining important draft picks to improve our team with youth for the future.

You also look at the broken leg, its not career ending, its not something that should cause him to lose a step, but if should be an eye opener for Mac and the fans. Injuries happen, he is young, but he just had a significant injury that could translate into more of the same. Sometimes you have to know when to sell, this is the best time for this team to sell.

I really can't see them keeping him, to me it makes way more sense to trade him.

After looking at this whole thing again I honestly don't see us locking him up. He's gonna want market value, and he deserves market value. Market value means he wants to be the highest paid defensive lineman in the game. Going back to the Suh deal from last year, Mo has every right to ask for 20-22 mil. per year. He's better, younger, more versatile than Suh and he's got less (none) red flags. Suh averages over 20 mil. per year so why should Mo ask for less? Especially considering the salary cap is going to increase yet again, naturally players want more money. So to me there's no doubt that Mo wants to be the highest paid DL and while I'd love to keep Mo I don't see us paying him that much. The one thing we've got going for us is our ability to tag him of course, so we have some leverage. The Lions didn't have any leverage with Suh, they either had to pay him 20 mil. per year or let him walk. Mo doesn't have that choice, so this could save us a couple millions per year if we get something done now. I'd assume maybe 18 mil. per year he's gonna take, something like that. It's a shitty situation for us to be in. Mo is in a perfect situation and I think he wouldn't mind getting tagged either because next year forget about it, when he hits free agency and he has another great year he's gonna shoot for 25 mil. per year, everybody is going to go after him. And I'd hate to lose him and not be compensated properly. Fuck the 3rd round compensatory pick. So I'm leaning towards tag & trade him this year for a 1st + 3rd and then some to the NFC. Bears, Buccaneers, Falcons, Cowboys, Giants, Lions, Saints all make a lot of sense.

Pace gets the same "hate" every year from a lot of posters but the guy has always been productive for us in my eyes.

Pace has been a good soldier. But the team has to get faster.

Yes but his numbers have gone down the last two years and he's 35 and is slower then my Grandmother after knee surgery.Mauldin will be a starter for us next year and we will likely draft another LB in round 1 or 2 for the other side
