According to his latest (first) '16 mock.

    20.) New York Jets

    *Jaylon Smith, LB, Notre Dame

By now, everyone knows that Smith suffered a knee injury in the Fiesta Bowl, and there's at least the possibility he won't play football in 2016. That said, I'm not exaggerating on the kid's behalf when I say he was arguably the best player in this entire draft. This front office will assess the risk, but they also have showed they like to take the best player available, and Smith is an absolute monster if he's back -- a Pro Bowl-caliber talent even if he loses half a step. It's a fluid situation, but it's mock 1.0 and I want to reflect his talent level.

Wow this would be a great thread for the draft forum if it wasn't already there.

You can actually view all posts by clicking on profile in which you click "view posts" you'll notice that the only posts that are "exactly the same" complaining about threads are under threads you or DBH started. So what's that tell ya?

To get back on topic, I would be elated if we could land Jaylon Smith. I watched every ND game this year and he was far and away the best player on the field every week.

I think teams with deep rosters and solid organizations are in a position to take the chance on him in the 1st round--not the NYJ

Good point. I think we're developing the solid organization, but are a few years away from having a deep roster.

If we can land a stopgap LB in free agency (not talking about Pace) then I wouldn't mind the pick. It would also depend how quick his recovery would be. While we're in win-now mode, we should also try to build for the future and getting someone like Jaylon Smith that late would be fantastic.

That's funny, I read somewhere this morning how the Jets should take Derrick Henry at 20. Still laughing over that one.....

I really want Ragland. If he isn't there take the best OT on the board, maybe even OLB if its BAP.

Henry is not a 1st round pick, I don't get why people would mock him to the Jets. If you can't get a special back like Gurley or Peterson in round one just pass and pick up a FA. Or even trade for a proven veteran if you have to.

Reggie Ragland is my #1 choice right now, he has a chance to be a CJ Mosley type guy in the NFL if everything works out. Shaq Lawson or Calhoun (edge rusher) are also good alternatives.

and I thought he was used improperly, he was back in coverage a lot more than he was rushing the passer this year. if he had been allowed to rush the passer he would have been an even more dominating force.

Exactly. If McGags can stitch together a semi-competent LB corp, you take Smith and count on him to be a force for years to come.

Keep an eye out for Yannick Ngaqoue OLB from Maryland, he is rising fast, especially after stringing together some good games against OT that were highly rated and drafted in the first round last year and will be drafted in the 1st round this year.
