I was 4 and 8 years old when both of those games happened so I didn't really comprehend how bad those losses were. The greatest losses for me would be both AFCCG and the loss vs Pittsburgh where Doug Brien missed 2 FGs.
I think this years rings in at #4 for me after the 3 you listed. I'm a couple years younger than you so we're on the same wavelength. At 12 years oldn i think the most angry I've ever been in rooting for a team is still the ludicracy of kneeling to back the kick up to a distance that is un-makeable at Heinz field just to make sure we didn't get Music City Miracle'd.
'98...we were a half away from the SB. I thought we had it The spike game came to mind in the shed a tear thread. That was close, lol We had that game, and Boomer Fucking Esiason threw an atrocious, momentum changing INT down the right side in the 3rd quarter, mighta been the 4th, with a good lead. Marino gets all the credit, but he can thank Boomer. Boomer Fucking Esiason, my least favorite ex-Jet of all time. Not because of that game. Because of his shitty, ungrateful, attitude he has towards the Team..... On top of creating the Myth of that fucking game.
I agree with you because it had playoff implications, but 45-3, butt fumble and then another game vs the Pats with the division on the line (I don't remember the year, maybe 2011?) were all horrible losses for me too
I was at the fake spike game. That game started with the fan base so pumped up and excited, beating the fins we were going to take control of the divsion and then in a blink of an eye I was listening to a press conference hearing that Carroll was gone and Hess hired Kotite who just tanked in Philly. Unfucking believeable. I had tickets to the Superbowl that year (that I sold), I was so certain we were going and alas that opportunity was fumbled away. Two of the worst of many bitter memories.
I've still got a hole in my basement drywall over that one. The worst for me is the playoff game we pissed away in Cleveland in 1986. We were 10-1, then lost 5 in a row to end season. Go to Cleveland and lose in horrific fashion in OT.
Losing to Pittsburgh in the playoffs with Brien missing two field goals is by far the worst of any Jets loss. I had to watch it with my entire family consisting of obnoxious Steelers fans. I thought my aunt and I would kill each other.
Ah - I have had many of those and broken remote controls over the years. I think that one was a glass top coffee table, 20 years ago I would have destroyed something Sunday night, now I was over it before halftime of the late games.
The fake spike game is why my younger son is named Thomas and not Boomer. I had a legally binding contract with my wife. True story. _
Pitt game of course. But worst game in person? I was at the Buttt Fumble game. 4 rows behind the endzone that NE lived in
1. 2009 (played in 2010) AFC Title game vs Indy. Up 17-6, I thought it was going to happen. That year I think we could've beat the Saints even though we lost closely to them in the regular season. 2. 2010 (played in 2011) AFC Title game vs Pit. I had a feeling if we stopped them on 3rd down we would've scored and won. Played GB earlier in the year and lost 9-0. 3. 2004 Divisional Round vs Pit. Doug Brien two missed kicks. That 2004 team was just scrappy. 4. 2002 Divisional Round vs Oakland. After beating the Colts 41-0, I thought we had a real shot.
