Yep. For what's it's worth he graded highly by PFF in the last game against Buffalo. Never saw Demario's name pop up. If money needs to be saved at one position, the ILB slot next to Harris could be it if they resign Henderson to a 1m or less deal. Lattimore and Taiwan Jones (who hopefully has shown potential) can be reserves.
Sad but true, we can't afford to keep Mo and we'll get a nice 2017 comp pick by letting him walk. We're not spending heavily in the FA market so we'll be eligible for comp's. We're still stacked on DL and we need to spend our limited cap $ elsewhere.
We're too deep at safety I think. Behind Pryor & Gilchrist Dion has established himself as the #3 guy, and then you have Rontez, and AA if he's back, he's too versatile and for some reason I think Bowles might have big plans with him if he's back. That's 3 rock solid backups. As for Ijalana, it seems like he's been around forever, and he can't even crack the active roster. 3 years he's been here and he was active for only 3 games. He's only 6'4 too. I don't see him being able to play LT, rather develop that Okoye guy on the practice squad and draft a replacement to take over for Brick. But who knows. He was a 2nd round pick, kind of surprised. Maybe they see something in him.
Would be a great fit there but I don't see the Pats giving him the money he's looking for. Arizona would be a good fit for him, Steelers maybe, Cowboys is a dark horse. They all have desperate needs at NT. I'm gonna go with Buffalo though, makes too much sense. He probably wants to reunite with Rex & Dunbar again, Rex needs him to "teach" his philosophy like Bart Scott used to to the rest of the guys on defense. Plus they're getting rid of Mario Williams. Now you can move Kyle Williams to DE, Snacks at NT and Dareus at DE. Have fun trying to run against that front. If they had a capable ILB they'd be pretty good and stout. Watch Rex also scoop up Demario.
Powell will be back, Ivory will not. No way I see us letting Powell go especially since he was sorely missed against Buffalo. Davis, I'll drive that fucker to whatever team wants him. I'm thinking Mac will find some $ to free up in restructuring some of the contracts that are obviously inflated but not to Tannenbaumian extents where it will kill us in 3 years. Harrison is the one that would hurt the most especially since the prick in NE talked him up and will probably look to grab him. Year 1 was a honeymoon for our new regime what with a ton of dough to spend and a team coming off a 4 win season. This off season will be where we start to see what Mac can really do and what type of team Bowles is going to start assembling with an eye towards the future. The window of opportunity for us is 3 years at the most to make a run with our core guys. The clock starts now.
One of Jarret or Allen is going to need to go with the emergence of Miles. Too many SS, we could use another true FS if possible.
I wouldn't say that we're too deep. Look at what happened this season. AA was on IR. JJ was on IR. The Jets brought in several FAs during the season and eventually promoted Miles from the PS. I think for certain AA will be back and will be the top backup. What about JJ (Jaiquawn Jarrett)? He has played well for the Jets, but with the cap the way it is, he may not re-signed because his cap hit will be higher than Miles or Bailey's. If Ijalana isn't brought back, the Jets definitely need to draft a LT high. The Okoye guy on the PS wasn't signed to a futures contract, so the Jets must not think very highly of him. I doubt he'll be back.
He's not a long term solution but the Jets have a fair amount of areas to address this off season if they want to improve on what they started this season. So with that said, Henderson on a 1 or 2 year "stopgap" type of deal makes a lot of sense. The guy still has something left to offer and was an upgrade over Davis. The problem is, we need to start getting faster on defense like Bowles said and LB is a position we really need to look to address with that type of infusion.
I'd like to keep Douzable and Walls too. Douzable is a solid depth player on the d-line and will be cheap, and walls is a solid depth player at CB (hell he started most of the 2014 season for us) and will be cheap as well. espcially if we trade Richardson and cut Cromartie those 2 players could see a bigger role.
I like those two guys as well but ideally we find young guys, rookies to take their job. Whether that's Dex, drafting a DL to take over for Douzable. Those two are getting up there in age, close to 30 I believe, their salary is going up, they don't have any upside. Good role players but I think we can find similar guys with upside late in the draft. We have to get younger and faster.
I figure that's where he's going to end up in a few seasons. However, in the mean time Cromartie has become better at producing offspring than playing corner. Figure Williams gets to start in place of Cro next year, unless he's brought back on a reduced salary. Still it's still going to leave the Jets in a strange spot with so much of the secondary still in flux. There are a ton of strong/in the box safeties on the roster and a pair of busted corners in Milliner and Mcdougal that are going to need some sorting out. Buster is more or less locked into slot coverage and Walls is more or less a spot player at this point. Not to mention we have Gilchrist who played really well and is only 27 with 3 more years left on his deal. Could be interesting if we managed to cultivate another CB and run with 3 safeties like they did out in AZ while Bowles was there.
Understandable, but that could mean that our RBs consisted of Powell, Stacy and a rookie who is more of a 3rd down back, the depth at safety would be Dion Bailey and Miles, and if the Jets miss getting an ILB in the draft, and can't find another quality starter to replace Henderson, they'd either have to re-sign Demario Davis or start Taiwan Jones. Would the team be better in that situation? I don't think so. You would be weakening 3 units of the team fairly significantly to keep one unit strong, that already is too strong in terms of cap space and in terms of production in pressuring opposing QBs.
Because of his lack of footspeed. The FS is the last line of defense, the centerfielder. Revis is getting to the point he can't keep up with the young fast WRs at CB, I don't see him being any better, and quite likely would be worse as a FS. I would have zero interest in keeping him and paying him the huge bucks to play FS.
I agree about Walls. He's simply not that good. I hope he's gone. Douzable is very good and should be kept imo. He doesn't make that much and is a solid rotation player. He's made a number of big plays. The Jets better not draft another freaking DL. I'll freak out. I don't care if it's in the middle rounds. They've drafted enough DL over the last 4-5 seasons to last a decade.
