Yea, seriously, I am tired of Nugent. He is the worst player on the team. If the Jets sign a veteran kicker I can see them winning the Super Bowl. With our run defense completely shutting down opposing running backs and our consistent play from our cornerbacks (Justin Miller = penalty, burnt for a touchdown, penalty, penalty, burnt for a touchdown and if he gets lucky an interception). Not to mention the depth that we have at WR. Leon Washington has giving us so much and his commitment to holding on to the ball is inspiring. Leg Strength....Leg Strength Right and Pennington can throw the ball out of the stadium from his knees. I think Nugent is a young kicker who will have more success in kicking field goals then most of you "critics" will ever have in life. The Jets are a young team, on both sides of the ball, with a rookie coach (who looks like a great pick), in a brand new system. I think the Jets have some more problems to deal with then how far Nugent?s Kickoffs land and so do you. So why don?t you get off your high horse Jets Fans because every team has bad draft picks. It takes time, patience and a commitment to win. So have faith in Eric Mangini you have the commitment to win but shut the hell up. Happy Prevent. P.S. Good win this week against the Browns. It wasn?t the Zebras fault.

Hey now... I never said Nugent's leg was the biggest concern we have. I just stated that his leg is weak, and that I cannot understand how it could have been any stronger during his college days. While the Jets need to work out their problems defending the run, they can also look to upgrade the kicker position.

kickers use a 2inch tee in college, in the NFL kickers are only allowed a 1inch tee. that is why he seemed much better in college

Stephen Gostkowski doesn't seem to be affected by it...He's had like 8 or 9 touchbacks this year.

I Nuge was a free agent pick instead of a second rounder, consistently kicked the ball into the end zone with hang time on kickoffs and had a big, deadly accurate leg for field goals, nobody would be bad mouthing him.

how can you possibly call someone a huge disappointment after 1 1/2 seasons? it makes absolutely no sense. doug brien is out of the league. do you honestly think nugent would be out of the league for more than 30 minutes if the jets cut him. absolutely no way.

While I am not ready to give up on Nugent, I think you can call him a huge disappointment, especially after seeing what some other young kickers not drafted in the 2nd round can do.

I am not railing against the pick, however, even if you give him a mulligan for his rookie year, he hasn't really shown any improvement this season.

I strongly disagree. Many times you can't tell if a player is a disappointment for 3,4, or even 5 years down the road. Especially at the kicker position. Someone on this post mentioned wanting Nate Kaeding. Yet, people would call him a disappointment after his first two years since he was drafted in the 3rd round and missed an enormous playoff kick. You can't blame a player for where they were drafted. Janikowski is definitely not the best kicker in the league, but Oakland got a kicker for 10-15 years. A similar theory can be said for the jets. Nugent's first season was far from needing a mulligan. Compared to all the veteran kickers, which people want to bring in, it was far better in the first season.

Impatient people in Columbus called in a disappointment and disaster after his first year there as well. Tressel just asked for people to be patient and look at how that turned out. Football teams are not built in a year. They are built over 3,4,5 years for one opportunity to win a Super Bowl. A would just like to see a little patience in calling people disappointments.

I dont think that you can criticize a kickers performace when your offense has only created 10 tries for him. It just seems like a waste of time. Its not like he was lights out at ohio state his first two years but as he became more comfortable and confident he was dominating. By graduation, he held or shared 22 Ohio State records, including most points scored and most points by a kicker (356), most field goals (72), most consecutive field goals (24, 2001-02), most games with multiple field goals (20), most field goals of 50 yards or more (8) and best field goal percentage (.818). So just give the man some time to prove himself and stop complaining about draft picks. It happens to every NFL team the reason bad picks are associated with the Jets is because their fans talk about it all the time. He will develope it will take him some time but you will regret questioning him.

A kicker is one position where a guy can come out of college and perform on a NFL level. No excuses why he misses so many kicks. He doesn?t need any one to hold his hand. I think he was a huge mistake and the jets would be better off with a Free agent kicker. You can make all the excuses you want for the guy he?s just not that good I could care less what he did in college.

I only gave you those stats to help you realize that Nugent took a year or two to get comfortable at college so what makes you think that its going to be so different for him in the NFL. Its not like Nugent is going out there and missing every kick. I presented stats to you too emphasize my point. Just give him a chance to develop a little and to let him get comfortable kicking in the NFL. By the way Gostkowski percentage is 66.7 and his long on the season is a 35 yd fieldgoal. So he may be able to get some touchbacks but you dont even know if he can make a 40yd field goal.

How many chances has he had from over 49 yards...3??? You mean to tell me that the kid has no chance of kicking from that distance. Absurd. As for your comment about the kicker being the one position you can play immediately out of college...back it up. Give me one rookie kicker that was a stud right out of college. Vinateri? No. Janikowski? No. Vanderidiot? No. Neal Rackers? Certainly Not. Kaeding. Hell No. Longwell? Nope.
